Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Team Manager – Leicestershire County Council
Location: County Hall, Glenfield, Leicester, LE3 8RA Salary: Grade 13 – £49,221 to £53,826 per annum (pro-rata for part-time, pending pay award + market premium potentially reviewable)
Contract Type: Permanent | Hours: 37 per week Closing Date: Saturday, 18th July 2026 Interviews: TBC

Are you a passionate Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) seeking a leadership role that drives meaningful change? Join our dynamic Mental Health Service as the new AMHP Team Manager, a structures role that supports both operational and Forensic Mental Health Team leadership within Leicestershire County Council.
About the Role
This high-stakes, leadership-focused position requires you to:
- Lead and mentor a team of AMHPs, ensuring legislative compliance (under the Mental Health Act 1983) and consistent, high-quality statutory practice.
- Work in collaboration with the senior (current) AMHP Manager, offering operational oversight and strategic direction to improve service delivery.
- Provide after-hours clinical guidance to AMHPs, ensuring 24/7 support and responsiveness for crisis cases.
- Oversee the Forensic Mental Health Team, ensuring effective coordination, risk management, and cross-agency partnerships (involving healthcare, criminal justice, and social care).
- Champion evidence-based, person-centred decision-making, ensuring compliance with ESPC indicators/monitored areas.
- Drive service development, contribute to workforce planning, and embed continuous improvement in practice.
- Support staff wellbeing, mentorship, and reflective practice, fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Key Requirements
To thrive in this role, you must be:
- A qualified & currently approved AMHP (or committed to reapproving within 3 months of commencement).
- A seasoned practitioner with in-depth knowledge of:
- Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983 (amendments & local protocols included)
- Care Act 2014 and safeguarding frameworks.
- Psychological (traumatic) disclosures and critical incident management.
- A confident, forward-thinking leader capable of:
- Supporting AMHPs in technically complex scenarios.
- Holding practice to high ethical standards while allowing professional autonomy.
- Managing risk within forensic and high-risk contexts.
- Passionate about improving outcomes for people with complex mental health needs, including those detained under the MHA or at higher levels of risk.
- A collaborative professional, skilled in fostering trust, efficiency, and responsiveness across health, social care, and criminal justice systems.
