Team Manager - Environment Environment and Waste Policy and Strategy Group Leicestershire County Council
Location County Hall, Glenfield, Leicester. LE3 8RA (Hybrid working subject to flexible arrangement discussions)
Salary & Contract £55,443 – £61,116 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) Pay award pending Permanent position | 37 hours per week

About the Role
As Team Manager - Environment, you will lead the delivery of Leicestershire County Council’s Climate Resilience Delivery Plan while supporting environmental strategy, policy development, and project implementation across the organisation. Collaborating with partners, stakeholders, and colleagues, you’ll focus on achieving the Council’s environmental commitments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop strategies, policies, and projects aligned with the Council’s Environment Strategy and Climate Resilience Plan.
- Manage high-performing teams delivering projects that fulfil organisational environmental goals.
- Oversee budgeting, risk assessment, health and safety, and project prioritisation.
- Build and maintain partnerships (especially with senior stakeholders) and engage with communities to address climate resilience and environmental challenges.
- Translate technical and non-technical information into reports, presentations, and transparent communications for diverse audiences.
- Work under tight deadlines, balancing teamwork and independent initiative.

The role is politically restricted under the Local Government Officers (Political Restrictions) Regulations 1990. Ineligible candidates will be disqualified.
About You
Essential:
- Degree in a relevant subject (or equivalent experience in environmental management/climate change) + credible continued professional development.
- Demonstrated policymaking and strategy expertise suited to strategic organisational outcomes.
- Strong team management, project delivery, and people skills (including performance leadership).
- Experience collaborating externally, securing trust with diverse stakeholders (e.g., locality leaders), and adapting subjects to varied audiences.
- Robust communication (clearly pitching technical/non-technical reports and briefing senior staff/members).
- Ability to multitask across tight deadlines and in self-directed contexts.
