Tech Lead Developer | Python / C# / Angular | Greenfield & AI Prototyping | £130,000 | Azure | Commodities & Energy | Hybrid, London
A Tech Lead Developer is required to join a high‑impact engineering group within one of London’s most forward‑thinking commodity and energy trading businesses. This team operates at the intersection of trading, data, AI and rapid prototyping, delivering high‑value greenfield solutions across 12–15 concurrent initiatives.
This is a hands‑on technical role with responsibility for leading small project pods (1–2 engineers), shaping solution direction, and building prototypes and production-grade systems across Python, C#, Angular and Azure. You’ll work directly with traders, quants and senior business stakeholders to unpack complex requirements, build proof‑of‑concepts, and turn ambiguous ideas into working software.
The environment is fast-moving, exploratory and deeply technical — ideal for someone who thrives in greenfield engineering, enjoys variety, and wants to work on high-value, high-impact projects without people management responsibilities.
The Team
The engineering function sits at the centre of the firm’s data, trading and product innovation ecosystem, responsible for:
- Greenfield Prototyping — rapidly building new tools, models and workflows from scratch
- AI Workflow Development — designing and implementing AI-driven decisioning and recommendation systems
- Proof-of-Concept Engineering — validating new trading ideas, data ingestion methods and modelling approaches
- Full Stack Application Delivery — Python/C# services, Angular front-ends, Azure cloud
- Data Platform Integration — connecting models, market data, and internal systems
- Stakeholder-Led Solution Design — working directly with traders and business owners to shape requirements

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
