Tech Stock & Build Coordinator

Location: JD Sports – Kingsway Warehouse

Function: Tech Operations and Support

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Role Overview

The IT Stock and Till Build Coordinator is responsible for the end-to-end coordination of IT hardware builds, including till systems and stock management devices, in support of JD Sports store openings, refits, and ongoing operational requirements. Working within the Tech Operations and Support function at the Kingsway Warehouse, this role acts as the central point for receiving, building, configuring, and dispatching IT equipment to retail sites across the estate.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Build & Configuration

  • Receive, inventory, and process incoming IT hardware including till systems, handheld stock devices, printers, and peripherals
  • Carry out imaging, configuration, and testing of devices in line with JD Sports IT standards and build documentation
  • Maintain accurate build records and asset registers throughout the hardware lifecycle
  • Ensure all equipment is fully tested and deployment-ready before dispatch

Core Operational Tasks

  • Closure Kit – Pallet Decom: Manage the decommissioning of hardware pallets associated with store closures, ensuring all equipment is correctly processed, catalogued, and either returned to stock, recycled, or disposed of in line with policy
  • Project – Pallet Builds: Build and prepare hardware pallets for new store openings and refit projects, ensuring all equipment is correctly imaged, labelled, and packed to project specification and timelines
  • BAU Tickets Actioned: Pick up and action Business-As-Usual IT support requests related to hardware builds and stock, ensuring timely resolution and accurate ticket updates in the IT ticker system
  • Recycling – Pallet Builds: Coordinate the preparation of end-of-life hardware for recycling, including pallet consolidation, data sanitisation checks, and handover to approved recycling partners
  • Asset Stock Check – Support (Weekly Count): Conduct weekly stock counts of IT assets held for the Support function, reconciling physical counts against the asset management system and reporting discrepancies
  • Asset Stock Check – Operations (Weekly Count): Conduct weekly stock counts of IT assets held for the Operations function, maintaining accurate records and flagging stock anomalies or shortfalls to the relevant team leads

Stock & Inventory Management

  • Manage warehouse stock levels of IT hardware and consumables, raising purchase requests when stock reaches minimum thresholds
  • Coordinate with procurement and vendors to track inbound hardware deliveries
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and auditable IT stock environment within the Kingsway Warehouse
  • Conduct regular stock audits and reconcile physical stock against ITSM/asset management systems

Deployment Coordination

  • Liaise with the Retail Operations and Store Development teams to schedule and plan hardware deployments for new store openings, refits, and replacements
  • Coordinate logistics of equipment dispatch including packaging, labelling, and shipping documentation
  • Provide build timelines and status updates to stakeholders, escalating risks to delivery schedules as appropriate

Support & Documentation

  • Produce and maintain build guides, configuration checklists, and standard operating procedures
  • Support the wider Tech Operations team with hardware troubleshooting and returns management (RMA process)
  • Log and track all hardware movements and build activity in the relevant ITSM tooling

  • Identify opportunities to improve build processes, reduce lead times, and increase efficiency within the warehouse operation
  • Contribute to projects related to hardware standardisation and lifecycle management

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience in an IT hardware build, deployment, or warehouse coordination role
  • Hands-on knowledge of configuring Windows-based devices and common retail peripherals (receipt printers, barcode scanners, card payment terminals)
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent builds and deadlines
  • Comfortable working with asset management and ITSM systems
  • Good communication skills — able to coordinate clearly with remote store teams and internal stakeholders
  • A methodical, quality-focused approach with attention to detail

Desirable

  • Experience within a retail IT or multi-site deployment environment
  • Familiarity with EPOS/till systems and retail stock management devices (e.g. Zebra handhelds)
  • Basic networking knowledge (IP configuration, Wi-Fi, switch connectivity)
  • Experience with imaging tools (e.g. SCCM)

Reporting Structure

This role reports into the Tech Kingsway Support Manager and works closely with colleagues in IT Service Desk, Operations, Asset Management, Infrastructure, and Networks.

Working Hours & Environment

Based at the Kingsway Warehouse. Standard working hours with flexibility required to meet project timelines around store openings and key trading periods. The role is primarily hands-on and warehouse-based.
