The TechMate Role
The TechMate is a field-based technical ambassador responsible for promoting AAG private label brands through expert product knowledge, practical training, and best-practice guidance. This role strengthens market confidence in private label programmes by combining hands-on technical support with proactive commercial engagement. Acting as the technical face of the brand, the TechMate delivers product training and technical presentations to colleges, factors, garages, and internal sales teams. Through field workouts, troubleshooting visits, and live demonstrations, the role supports pull-through sales while reinforcing product quality, sourcing integrity, and application best practice.

Beyond training delivery, the TechMate provides frontline technical support—responding to customer enquiries, resolving product-related issues, and assisting with installation guidance. The role plays a key part in shaping continuous improvement by feeding structured market intelligence back to product management, pricing, and marketing teams. This includes identifying product range gaps, monitoring competitor activity, and highlighting opportunities to improve margin and market share. The position requires strong technical credibility, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships with customers and internal stakeholders. By maintaining up-to-date product expertise and promoting a consistently positive image of AAG private label brands, the TechMate helps drive brand loyalty, technical confidence, and sustainable commercial growth.
This is a field-based role that requires extensive travel and nights away. A company van will be provided along with company expenses, laptop and mobile phone.
Location: Field based. Scotland & Northern Ireland.
Specific Responsibilities
- Promote a positive image of AAG private label products with staff, suppliers and customers at all times.
- Promote best practice
- Technical visits & trouble shooting
- Carry out field workouts with factors to help generate pull through sales
- Carry out technical presentations to Colleges, factors and garages
- Train our sales teams, customers and garages on GPC product, sourcing and quality
- Support customer enquiries, visits, demonstrations, training and technical issues.
- Provide information to the management and product teams on all aspects of the private label programme.
- Regular feedback on competition (distributors and suppliers) their activities, strengths and weakness in the market place and how AAG can benefit from it.
- Regular input and feedback to pricing, product management and marketing teams with market detail to assist in the maximisation of product margin and increase market share.
- Identify gaps in the existing programme and advise product management teams.
- Maintain up to date product expertise.
