Technical Analyst – Permanent

Grade D – £45,091 – £53,460

(Consultation grade – subject to formal evaluation under the Equal Pay Programme)

Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Analyst at Birmingham City Council, working within the Digital Technology & Services department.

As a Technical Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting solution design and architecture activities across the organisation. Working alongside Solution Architects and technical teams, you will help analyse requirements, contribute to technical designs, and ensure solutions align with business goals, standards, and governance.

Types of Work

As a Technical Analyst, your work will include:

  • Technical Analysis and Design Support: Assisting in analysing business requirements and developing solution designs and architectural artefacts.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Working with stakeholders, suppliers, and partners to gather information and ensure clear understanding of solutions.
  • Architecture Governance and Documentation: Supporting governance processes, maintaining documentation, and ensuring alignment with standards and frameworks.
  • Technology and Solution Development: Assisting in designing and developing technology solutions aligned with the council’s roadmap and strategic direction.
  • Continuous Improvement and Research: Identifying opportunities to improve systems efficiency and component reuse.

What You Will Do

  • Support the documentation and alignment of architectural frameworks, technical requirements, and governance standards.
  • Analyse business requirements to ensure solutions meet defined outcomes.
  • Work closely with Solution Architects to support design and development of technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, suppliers, and partners to gather and clarify requirements.
  • Produce architectural documentation, design artefacts, and meeting outputs.
  • Participate in governance forums to support effective oversight of solution delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection, information security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the technology roadmap.
  • Research technologies and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and component reuse.
  • Support the resolution of technical issues and contribute to structured analysis of solution challenges.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Maintain consistency in the use of architecture tools, templates, and standards.
  • Uphold your own professional development and continuous learning.
