Technical Architect (Network) | North East England | MSP
Not another "senior engineer with a nicer title" role. This one comes with actual design authority.
We're working with an established North East MSP looking for a Technical Architect (Network) to own the technical direction for their network and secure access practice — the person customers get put in front of when the conversation moves from "what's broken" to "what should this look like in three years."
The role
You'll sit at the point where sales, pre-sales and delivery meet: shaping designs against real customer requirements and budgets, then staying involved through implementation, service transition and handover. Expect a mix of hands-on design work, technical leadership, and direct engagement with customer stakeholders — including C-suite.

What you'll be doing
- Acting as design authority across WAN, firewall, LAN/WLAN, secure access and identity — pulling it all into one coherent target architecture rather than a stack of point solutions
- Leading network and secure access transformation projects: WAN transformation, firewall modernisation, SASE/ZTNA adoption, LAN/WLAN refreshes
- Producing HLDs, LLDs, implementation plans and handover documentation that actually get used post-go-live
- Running solution presentations and technical discussions directly with customers
- Acting as the escalation point when things get genuinely hard — for both project delivery and managed service teams
- Mentoring engineers and helping raise the technical bar across the team
What you'll bring
- A track record as a Technical Architect, Network Architect or Senior Network Engineer, ideally built inside an MSP
- Strong network design and implementation experience — Cisco and Meraki particularly
- Exposure to modern secure access architecture: SASE/SSE, ZTNA, cloud-delivered web security, identity integration with Microsoft Entra ID
- Confidence across routing, switching, firewalling, wireless, VPN, SD-WAN and internet-first network design
- The ability to explain a complex design decision to a junior engineer and a non-technical exec in the same afternoon

CCNP, CCIE or Meraki Solutions Specialist certification is a strong plus, not a hard requirement
This is a hybrid role in Newcastle, with some expectation of time on client sites where needed. Roughly 3-4 days working from home is the standard expectation.
