The Role We are looking for an experienced Technical Architect with strong SharePoint expertise to support the design and evolution of enterprise collaboration platforms in a hybrid on-premise and cloud environment. This role will focus on architecting, governing, and improving SharePoint platforms while ensuring secure integration with Microsoft 365, Azure, and AWS hosted services. You will work closely with infrastructure, security, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, resilient, and compliant collaboration solutions. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in complex enterprise environments, balancing on-prem SharePoint architecture with cloud services in Microsoft 365, while ensuring alignment with organisational security, compliance, and technical standards. Key Responsibilities Architecture & Design Lead the technical architecture of SharePoint platforms within a hybrid environment combining on-prem infrastructure and Microsoft 365 services Define architecture patterns for SharePoint, document management, collaboration platforms, and integration services Produce high-quality architecture artefacts including high-level designs, detailed technical designs, and implementation roadmaps Ensure SharePoint solutions align with enterprise architecture principles, security standards, and operational requirements Platform Engineering & Integration Architect integrations between SharePoint, Microsoft 365, Azure services, and AWS-hosted applications Design solutions for identity, authentication, and access management leveraging technologies such as Azure AD / Entra ID and federated identity Support the adoption of modern collaboration capabilities while maintaining compatibility with legacy on-prem environments Provide technical leadership for migration, upgrade, and transformation initiatives Governance & Security Define and maintain SharePoint governance models, including site architecture, data classification, retention policies, and permissions structures Ensure collaboration platforms meet security, compliance, and data protection requirements Work with cyber security and risk teams to embed secure-by-design architecture principles Technical Leadership Provide architectural leadership and technical assurance across delivery teams Review solution designs and implementation approaches to ensure alignment with architectural standards Engage with stakeholders across infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver integrated solutions Act as the technical authority for SharePoint platforms within the organisation Proven experience as a Technical Architect or Solution Architect in enterprise environments experience with information management, classification and retention and IRM Strong expertise in SharePoint architecture (on-prem and Microsoft 365 / SharePoint Online) Experience designing solutions across hybrid infrastructure environments Knowledge of Microsoft 365 platform services including SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive Experience integrating enterprise systems with Azure services Familiarity with AWS hosted services and integration patterns Strong understanding of identity and access management including Azure AD / Entra ID Ability to produce architecture documentation and technical designs Desirable Experience delivering SharePoint migrations or hybrid deployments Knowledge of enterprise collaboration governance frameworks Familiarity with Power Platform integration (Power Automate, Power Apps) Experience working in large or regulated environments This role will require you to have or be willing to go through Security Clearance. As part of the onboarding process candidates will be asked to complete a Baseline Personnel Security Standard; details of the evidence required to apply may be found on the government website Gov.UK.
