Technical Assistant – Full-Time, Permanent
Sysco are currently recruiting for a Technical Assistant to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis. The role will be partly based at one of our Ashford, Bicester, or Grantham offices and reports to the Senior Technical Manager. You will provide critical support in delivering supplier management, product compliance, and due diligence.
This role offers a hybrid working contract, requiring 1 day per week at one of the above offices for team collaboration. Candidates must have easy access to travel or the option to commute.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Supplier Maintenance
- Issue and review performance scorecards
- Monitor GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) status, respond to changes, and maintain corresponding data
- Monitor SEDEX membership status, review risk reports, and audit outcomes
- Ensure supplier and site contact details are current across relevant systems
- Monitor supplier and site certifications (non-GFSI) to safeguard chain of custody and product claims
- Track and report on audit status updates
Product Maintenance
- Oversee routine specification reviews and ensure completion
- Review specifications at the pack copy generation stage
- Conduct product quality assessments
- Evaluate artwork proofs
- Issue and review product scorecards to verify policy compliance
Certification Maintenance
- Maintain certified product lists
- Complete mass balance exercises for certified ranges
- Provide certified product data for customer reporting requirements
- Conduct internal certified claim validations

Additional Responsibilities
- Support complaint and rejection investigations with suppliers as needed
- Be flexible to support multiple categories across projects as required
- Gather product or ingredient data from suppliers for customer requests or policy development
- Assist in specification and artwork progression where necessary
- Provide first-line support to technical managers in responding to queries from category teams and suppliers
- Utilise the Assure database to maintain product and supplier data, conduct the appropriate spec audits, and perform database searches
- Attend product panels when required
- Support the Senior Technical Manager in resolving issues as they arise
- Assist in the delivery of ad-hoc projects as they arise
About You
The ideal candidate must possess:
- A technical background with expertise in food service or fast-paced technical teams (QA/QC)
- A relevant degree in Food Science/Technology
- A strong understanding of category and procurement strategies
- The ability to prioritise workloads and thrive in high-pressure environments
- A commitment to thorough complaint investigations and evidence of analytical skills to review data, identifying trends for reduction
