Senior Technical Author (Fixed-Term Contract) – Box Encapsulation Plant Project

The Challenge: The Box Encapsulation Plant Project
At the Sellafield Site, the Box Encapsulation Plant (BEP) is a vital component of the 100-year clean-up initiative. Its role:
- Encapsulates nuclear waste in concrete, retrieved from legacy wasteplants, enabling safe long-term storage in modernised facilities.
- Prioritised under the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) as part of Sellafield’s cleanup targets, specifically from the Magnox Swarf Storage Silo and three other legacy plants:
- First-Generation Magnox Storage Pond
- Pile Fuel Storage Pond
- Pile Fuel Cladding Silo
A BEP Joint Venture will design, construct, and deliver the plant safely and within contract terms, ensuring project success while meeting industry and stakeholder expectations.

Roles & Responsibilities
As a Senior Technical Author you will:

Develop & Compliance
- Produce a suite of professionally crafted System Overview Documents (Vol. B) within strict timelines.
- Cross-reference engineering/design data and vendor information, extracting key insights for accurate documentation.

Vendor & Operational Oversight
- Liaise with Engineering teams to collate Vendor O&M Manuals (Vol. D).

Commissioning Support
- Work closely with Commissioning Team Leaders & Engineers to draft System Completion Reports meeting Long-Term Readiness (LTR) project standards, delivering handover-ready documentation to the client.

Reporting & Accountability
- Provide weekly progress updates to the Senior Technical Author (your direct lead).
- Attend client progress meetings to promote alignment and transparency.

Safety & Cultural Leadership
- Maintain zero harm standards and adherence to quality/compliance protocols across all documentation.
- Foster a collaborative team culture aligned with the Collaborative Working Plan.
Key Requirements
- Nuclear Landscape Experience: Strong domain knowledge in nuclear clearance or decommissioning.
- Technical Writing & Documentation: Proven experience as a Technical Author, producing high-quality documentation.
- Education: Minimum HNC in Engineering/Domain-Relevant Discipline (or equivalent).
- Safety & Qualified Person Status: IOSH Working Safely/Managing Safely or equally recognised certification, plus relevant trade certification.
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain BPSS is mandatory.
- Shift Readiness: Flexible availability to work nitof ales/or staggered hours as project demands.
Note: Initial contract is fixed-term until March 2027, with potential transition to permanent status contingent on performance.
