Technical Writer / Technical Publications Engineer - Outside IR35
Certain Advantage are hiring for a Technical Publications Engineer to join one of the world’s fastest-growing engineering services firms.
This is an initial 12-month contract position that requires onsite attendance in Huddersfield.
The role
- Author and update installation manuals, maintenance procedures, service manuals, and engineering change documentation.
- Develop assembly and disassembly instructions and other client-facing technical documents.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, CAD models, and BOMs to create accurate and user-centric documentation.
- Collaborate closely with design engineers, manufacturing, and product teams to understand functionality and ensure technical accuracy.
- Create 2D/3D illustrations using Solid Edge or equivalent tools.
- Work within customer systems and processes to maintain compliance with standards, procedures, and SOPs.
- Support project, supplier, and customer meetings with updates on technical publications.

The individual
- Strong technical writing and editing skills.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and 3D models.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and mechanical assembly.
- Proficiency in authoring tools and 3D CAD packages (ideally Solid Edge).
- Familiarity with structural design practices and methodologies.
- Experience designing components, assemblies, and subassemblies in heavy engineering, power transmission systems, gears, and gearboxes.
- Strong knowledge of subsystems affecting mechanical layouts.
- Background in root cause analysis, failure mode analysis, and continuous improvement practices.
- Effective problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
