Technical Business Analyst – Applications – SQL – Banking
Location: London (International Bank)
About the Role
An exciting opportunity for a Technical Business Analyst to join the Project Management Office (PMO) team of a London-based global bank. You will support the implementation of the bank’s new AML (Anti-Money Laundering) system, focusing on application support and development, with SQL and Python expertise within a challenging banking environment.
Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Requirements Management
- Assist the Project Manager and Business Analyst in:
- Collecting and analysing business requirements
- Creating technical specifications aligned with requirements
- Conduct system impact analysis and map workflows to propose technical solutions
Software Development & Automation
- Write Python scripts and automation tools to streamline Business As Usual (BAU) workloads
- Develop clear and high-quality software code with a focus on collaboration
- Test code, identify errors, and iterate solutions for quality assurance
- Troubleshoot backend applications and resolve software issues

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact between business teams and developers/engineers
- Coordinate with Desktop, Infrastructure, and Network teams to ensure seamless end-to-end process alignment
- Communicate effectively to bridge requirements gaps across technical and business stakeholders
Development & Testing
- Perform SQL data analysis, validate APIs, and confirm technical feasibility with software architects
- Participate in release and deployment projects as required
- Execute and review code quality assessments
On-Call & Emergency Support
- Provide out-of-hours support during critical incidents or urgent scenarios
Required Experience
Technical & Development Skill Set
- Proficiency in Python and SQL
- Experience in relational database management
- Strong capabilities in debugging and troubleshooting software
- On-premise IT solution, automation, and scripting (PowerShell/shell scripting) experience
- Exposure to the full application development lifecycle

Professional Background
- 4+ years of relevant development/execution experience
- Previous experience in a banking, financial services, or IT infrastructure role
- Background in middleware systems, middle/back-office applications, or AML compliance systems
- Familiarity with BAU processes, Change Management (Change), and Service Desk (e.g., ManageEngine Service Desk Plus)
Soft Skills & Collaboration
- Ability to work under pressure in high-demand environments
- Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a team player
Education
Educated to degree level (preferred, but relevant experience will also be considered)
