Technical Business Analyst – Payments (Remote)

Location: Remote Salary: Up to £48,000

About Us

At Arbor, we’re on a mission to transform the way schools work for the better.

We believe in a future where:

  • Being challenged doesn’t mean being overworked
  • Data steers progress without overwhelming staff
  • Everyday work in schools reminds staff what inspired them to join education

Our School Management Tools are already transforming over 12,000 schools, giving time and power back to staff and supporting 350,000+ hardworking people. Our focus isn’t just on efficiency—we want happier working lives for educators every day, making schools joyful places to work and learn.

About the Role

Arbor MIS powers attendance, assessment, clubs, trips, and timetabling for UK schools, freeing staff to focus on their primary mission: students. We’re looking for a Technical Business Analyst with analytical, collaborative, and empathetic skills to join our Payments team.

Arbor Payments enables schools to go fully cashless, handling everything from club bookings and trips, meals, to online shops. As a Technical Business Analyst, you’ll collaborate closely with the Senior Product Manager to scope, refine, and deliver the product roadmap.

Our culture thrives on differences—we’re not looking for an exact match but someone passionate about the role whose strengths complement our current team.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Product Manager to shape, challenge, and deliver a strategic Payments roadmap aligned with company goals
  • Define problems and hypotheses based on customer needs and feedback, ensuring alignment with product strategy
  • Work with Engineering and Product Design to assess assumptions, identify risks, and validate feasibility of solutions
  • Support the Senior Product Manager in sprint planning and team ceremonies (e.g., stand-ups, retrospectives)
  • Break down high-level product initiatives into detailed user stories, functional specs, and acceptance criteria
  • Define critical business rules, data validations, and error-handling scenarios for robust technical solutions
  • Document workflows using:
    • Data flow diagrams
    • Sequence diagrams
    • System schemas (for engineering guidance)
  • Ensure security and compliance with:
    • Data protection regulations
    • PCI compliance standards for industry security
  • Proactively identify, track, and resolve cross-team dependencies impacting the roadmap
  • Leverage data-driven iteration and testing to refine impact and goals
  • Act as the primary technical escalation point for 2nd Line Support, reviewing:
    • Escalated bugs
    • System behaviour queries
    • High-priority customer issues
  • Partner with the Senior Product Manager to balance:
    • Strategic roadmap delivery
    • Bug resolution and maintenance
  • Champion user-centricity using feedback, metrics, and research to drive decisions
  • Proactively communicate milestones, progress, and adjustments to stakeholders
  • Foster collaboration and shared learning across teams and departments

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
