About the Role

At SAMpeople, we are on a mission to transform holistic HR and payroll management for the education sector—saving schools time, reducing overheads, and letting staff focus on what matters most.

As our Technical Business Analyst (Payroll), you will play a critical, highly collaborative role in bridging the gap between our payroll stakeholders and our brilliant technical teams. Your mission is to translate complex payroll requirements, market opportunities, and regulatory landscapes into highly detailed functional specifications and seamless process workflows.

You’ll ensure that our SAMpeople payroll and transactional tools are scalable, secure, and incredibly accurate—ultimately removing heavy administrative burdens from school staff across the UK.

Responsibilities

Requirement Elicitation & Strategic Alignment

  • Partner with the Head of Payroll to challenge, shape, and deliver features that align with SAMpeople's strategic business goals.
  • Define clear problem statements and hypotheses based on payroll stakeholder feedback and regulatory research, ensuring every initiative delivers measurable value.
  • Proactively map and manage functional cross-team dependencies to keep development cycles running smoothly and risk-free.

Requirement Engineering & Technical Specification

  • Decompose high-level strategic initiatives into detailed user stories, comprehensive functional specifications, and rigorous acceptance criteria.
  • Document complex current and future-state workflows using data flow diagrams, sequence diagrams, and process models.
  • Establish precise business rules, data validations, and error-handling scenarios to guide the engineering team toward robust, high-quality technical builds.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
