Technical Business Development Manager
Technical Sales | Electrical • Mechanical • Industrial Technology

Location
Field-based across the UK with regular travel to customer sites, project locations and industry events.
Salary & Benefits
- Base Salary: £42,000–£48,000 per annum (depending on experience)
- Performance Bonus: Revenue-based milestone commission scheme
- Annual Revenue Target: £300,000 (approximately 3× base salary)

Exercom is an engineering solutions provider specialising in industrial automation, terminal automation systems, measurement technologies, LED lighting, and electrical & mechanical infrastructure. We partner with leading manufacturers to deliver innovative, reliable solutions across fuel terminals, industrial facilities, commercial sites and critical infrastructure throughout the UK.
As we continue to expand, we are looking for an ambitious Technical Business Development Manager who combines commercial ability with technical understanding to accelerate our growth.
Role Overview
The Technical Business Development Manager will take ownership of new business generation while developing long-term relationships with existing customers. This is a commercially focused position requiring someone who is confident discussing engineering solutions with consultants, contractors, facilities managers and technical decision-makers.

The successful candidate will manage the complete sales process—from identifying opportunities through to proposal development, negotiation, contract award and project handover—while working closely with Exercom's engineering and operations teams.
This role carries direct responsibility for achieving annual revenue targets and will play a significant role in shaping the company's future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate new business opportunities across electrical, mechanical and industrial sectors.
- Identify prospective clients through networking, market research, referrals and strategic business development.
- Build and maintain relationships with consultants, engineers, contractors, distributors and end users.
- Manage the complete sales lifecycle from prospecting through contract award.
- Develop technically appropriate commercial solutions with engineering teams.
- Prepare proposals, presentations and technical submissions.
- Conduct customer meetings, demonstrations and site surveys.
- Grow existing customer accounts through repeat business and cross-selling.
- Maintain CRM records, forecasts and pipeline activity.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity.
- Support exhibitions and industry events.
- Coordinate project handover with delivery teams.
- Mentor junior sales support staff.
- Report monthly against KPIs.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in technical B2B business development or engineering sales.
- Proven record of achieving revenue targets.
- Strong technical understanding of electrical, mechanical, automation or industrial engineering sectors.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
- Engineering, Technology or Business qualification.
- Electrical, mechanical or automation engineering background.
- Experience in industrial automation, petroleum terminals, measurement systems, process instrumentation, LED lighting or hazardous area equipment.
- Existing engineering industry network.
