Claims Handler – Liability
Salary: £28,000 to £29,650
Are you someone who enjoys working with complex liability claims and delivering fair outcomes? Do you love analysing detail and making sound decisions?
This is a great role for someone with experience in commercial liability claims who is ready to take the next step in a technical, customer-focused role. It could suit someone currently handling liability claims who wants to deepen their expertise or someone looking to contribute to a transforming Commercial Claims function while managing more complex work.
A bit about the job:
This role exists to support the delivery of high-quality liability claims handling within our Commercial Claims function, ensuring fair outcomes for customers and strong technical standards. You’ll be joining the Commercial Liability Direct team, which manages a range of Public, Employers’, Disease, and Product Liability claims.
- Manage a portfolio of liability claims up to £100k within delegated authority
- Carry out detailed investigations, including reviewing evidence and policy coverage to determine indemnity
- Work closely with solicitors, counsel, and external experts to assess liability and guide litigation strategy
- Negotiate fair and timely settlements, balancing legal, commercial, and customer outcomes
- Contribute to continuous improvement by maintaining high technical standards and supporting team development

You’ll be accountable for delivering timely, well-reasoned decisions and ensuring claims are handled in line with policy, regulation, and customer expectations.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Proven experience handling commercial liability claims (e.g. Public, Employers’, Disease or Product Liability)
- Strong knowledge of liability principles, common law, and insurance legislation
- Experience investigating claims and making indemnity decisions within delegated authority
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Confident communication and negotiation skills, including working with legal stakeholders

- Starting salary between £28,000 to £29,650 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
