I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.
See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The role
You'll own the technical build and delivery of the platform.
- For the first three months, every task will come with a detailed specification, clear acceptance criteria and the reasoning behind why we're building it. We want you spending your time writing excellent software rather than trying to work out product requirements.
- Initially, the focus is on refining and improving the existing product based on customer feedback. At this stage, polishing the product, improving usability and delivering an outstanding customer experience are significantly more valuable than introducing large amounts of new functionality.
- If you'd prefer to work independently, you'll be the sole technical hire during the first three months. If additional engineering capacity becomes necessary, we'll bring in another engineer to work alongside you.
- This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems, building products and shipping improvements quickly.
What we're looking for
We're far more interested in capability than years of experience, but ideally you'll have:
- Experience building and shipping production web and mobile applications
- Strong React Native / Expo and TypeScript experience
- Experience with Supabase, PostgreSQL (including Row Level Security), or an equivalent backend stack
- Experience with offline-first or real-time synchronisation (PowerSync or similar)
- Practical experience building AI-powered products using technologies such as RAG, embeddings and LLM APIs
- Strong product instincts and the ability to build genuinely simple software for non-technical users
- The ability to work independently, move quickly and take ownership of delivery

Fully remote.
We're flexible about how and when you work. We care about the quality of what you deliver rather than the hours you work.
For the right person, the initial three-month sprint can be completed on a part-time basis. Our intention is to move into a full-time salaried CTO role once we've reached our commercial milestones and completed fundraising.
The opportunity
We're looking for someone who wants to become a genuine long-term technical partner in the business.
For the right person, we're offering a meaningful equity stake and the opportunity to help shape the future of BuildersAI from an early stage.
If you'd prefer cash certainty initially, we're also open to a three-month paid retainer instead. The equity and retainer options are separate, and we'll discuss which route makes the most sense during the interview process.
Our next milestone
Our immediate objective is simple: reach 20 paying customers.
From there, we'll make full use of the resources available through our SETsquared Bristol Incubator residency, including experienced mentors, fundraising support, investor introductions and access to one of the UK's strongest startup ecosystems.
SETsquared has consistently been recognised as one of the world's leading university business incubators, and we're fortunate to be part of its Bristol centre. Combined with strong commercial traction, we believe we're in an excellent position to scale the business.
Interview process
- Alignment call with our COO
- Technical interview with our CEO
- Final conversation with the wider team
