About the Role
The Technical Consultant – Scientific Informatics will serve as the technical authority and solution owner across customer engagements. In this dynamic position, you’ll design and deliver end-to-end architectures that integrate IDBS platforms into complex life sciences ecosystems, ensuring scalability, compliance, and long-term customer success.
You will act as the key technology partner to customer IT, data, and scientific stakeholders, translating scientific workflows and business requirements into scalable SaaS-based architectures and integration strategies.
This role reports to the Manager, Professional Services and is part of IDBS’s European Professional Services team, with a UK-based headquarters in Woking. The position will support global projects.

Key Responsibilities

Own end-to-end technical architecture: Define and design scalable, secure, and compliant architectures for IDBS platforms, integrations, and customer environments, aligning with GxP requirements and enterprise IT strategy while ensuring long-term success.

Lead integration & data architecture: Develop and govern integrations between IDBS platforms and enterprise systems, defining API strategies, event flows, data pipelines, and governance models that ensure data integrity, enable AI/ML and analytics, and promote seamless interoperability. Contribute to best practices, reusable architecture patterns, and integration frameworks for IDBS products.

Drive technical decision-making: Balance trade-offs between configuration vs. customisation, scalability vs. cost vs. time-to-value, while adhering to cloud strategies, security frameworks, and regulatory requirements.

Provide hands-on leadership during delivery: Guide teams through complex integrations, resolve technical challenges, mitigate risks, and act as the escalation point for architectural issues. Lead architecture discussions with enterprise architects and senior stakeholders.

Enhance digital transformation & business value: Partner in legacy-to-SaaS modernization, reducing technical debt, and collaborating with pre-sales and delivery teams to ensure successful, scalable customer outcomes. Contribute to SOW and estimations for transformation initiatives.
Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Consulting & stakeholder engagement: Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and design tailored solutions in complex environments.
- Enterprise architecture & integration expertise (4–6+ years): Proven experience in creating and delivering scalable, high-performing SaaS-based architectures for integration into life sciences ecosystems. Ideally includes exposure to scientific informatics platforms such as LIMS, ELN, SDMS, CDS, and data platforms.
- Data architecture & integrity: Deep knowledge of data architecture, modelling, governance, and integrity, ensuring reliable, compliant data flows across systems.
- SaaS solution design & trade-offs: Experience with cloud strategies, security, and regulatory frameworks, along with an ability to make informed decisions on configuration vs. customization, scalability vs. cost.
- End-to-end delivery competence: Demonstrable experience in delivering sophisticated integrations and guiding customers through modernization efforts to legacy → SaaS, improving workflows, data accessibility, and business outcomes.

Differentiators
- Previous experience with life sciences domain: A Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields, coupled with a strong understanding of scientific workflows and regulatory environments.
Travel Requirement
- Up to 20% international/domestic travel required.
