IT Infrastructure & Delivery Manager – Defence Infrastructure

About the Company

This organisation operates at the heart of UK defence infrastructure, delivering large-scale:

across key military sites in the South of England. Partnering with central government, they Manage one of the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) largest long-term infrastructure programmes, ensuring modern, purpose-built environments for thousands of personnel.

The Role

This position sits at the heart of IT, ensuring technology is effectively designed, delivered, and embedded to:

  • Support operational performance
  • Drive future innovation

Core Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership:
    • Shape secure, scalable solutions
    • Maintain a strong focus on service quality and reliability
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with business stakeholders and the broader IT function
    • Influence technical direction and vendor engagement
  • Project & Delivery Oversight:
    • Manage project delivery while maintaining a resilient IT environment
    • Ensure high availability, strong security, and effective incident/change management
  • Supplier Management:
    • Coordinate with third-party suppliers to meet contractual obligations
  • Leadership & Mentorship:
    • Support the Head of IT in strategy, process improvement, and continuous improvement
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to build team capability

    • Strong background in infrastructure, platforms, and security
    • Ability to design solutions, challenge approaches, and support delivery
  • Project & Technology Delivery:
    • Proven track record in IT project delivery
    • Experience driving adoption of new technologies, with measurable business impact
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Excellent communication and influencing skills
    • Ability to build trust, shape requirements, and guide decision-making
  • Supplier Management:
    • Direct experience managing third-party suppliers and contracts
  • Risk Assessment & Problem-Solving:
    • Operate effectively within dynamic environments
    • Plan proactively, solve challenges, and anticipate risks
  • Mentorship & Team Development:
    • Commitment to supporting and mentoring colleagues
    • Contribution to team capability and reducing dependency risks

Preferred Qualifications & Framework Knowledge

  • Familiarity with ITIL framework
  • Microsoft or technical certifications (e.g., cloud, cybersecurity)
  • Experience in project management, security, auditing, and IT service environments
  • Background working within structured or shared services models
