Technical Design Engineer – Harlequin Retail Design Studio

Harlequin is a global retail design studio specialising in award-winning retail environments, window displays, interiors, and pop-up spaces. Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Technical Design Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. The successful candidate will produce production-ready technical drawing packages for workshops and external suppliers while providing technical guidance to designers and project managers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on budget, and to excellence.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in retail, exhibition, and experiential design for high-end global brands. The ideal applicant will have a strong foundation in SolidWorks or similar CAD systems, with proficiency in complementary software such as Rhino and SketchUp.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed technical designs and production drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.
  • Utilise CAD software (SolidWorks) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) principles to create accurate 3D models and construction drawings.
  • Analyze design briefs to advise on safety, production feasibility, and value engineering.
  • Collaborate with design, production, project management, and installation teams to ensure seamless project execution and success.

  • Proven experience in technical design, with a strong understanding of joinery, metalwork, and engineering practices.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks as the primary CAD tool, or experience with similar software (with a willingness to transition).
  • Experience with CNC programming, structural engineering, or mechanical engineering would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing standards for precise material selection and production specifications.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent organisational and project management abilities to oversee multiple projects at varying development stages.

This role is ideal for a proactive engineer seeking to contribute innovative technical solutions in a collaborative environment while advancing their expertise.

Work Location: Hybrid remote (based in London).
