About the Role
About You & the Technical Design Manager Position
The Technical Design Manager will oversee two dynamic teams:
- A workshop team of fabricators and maintenance staff
- A CAD team of 2 professionals
This role demands a hands-on leader who balances supervision, scheduling, resource management, and technical expertise, ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality project delivery. You will act as a strategic partner across departments, driving collaboration and identifying opportunities for process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
Team Management & Supervision
- Lead, motivate, and mentor your team
- Allocate tasks, track workloads, and ensure deadlines are met
- Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback
- Act as a liaison between CAD, Workshop, and other business departments (Project Office, Procurement, etc.)
- Be the primary contact for Procurement, managing all orders in your area
Workshop Operations
- Plan, schedule, and oversee fabrication, repairs, and maintenance
- Optimise workflows—tools, materials, and equipment usage
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, inventory, and progress
CAD Team Leadership
- Ensure designs, models, and drawings are accurate, timely, and project-aligned
- Allocate design tasks, review progress, and offer technical guidance
- Foster collaboration between CAD teams, fabricators, and maintenance staff
- Bridge gaps between design and workshop teams—ensuring smooth transition from CAD to fabrication/maintenance
- Review and approve designs before fabrication/production
- Assess designs for practicality, cost-efficiency, and manufacturability
- Maintain drawing standards and ensure proper version control & documentation
- Conduct regular design reviews for compliance with specifications, industry standards, and client requirements
- Identify ways to improve design efficiency
- Support transition to new CAD tools, processes, and methodologies
- Share knowledge between CAD and workshop staff to enhance problem-solving
Fabrication & Maintenance Oversight
- Collaborate to ensure seamless, efficient fabrication based on drawings
- Oversee production of parts, assemblies, and structural rigging
- Coordinate maintenance for equipment, machinery, and facilities
- Conduct quality control checks to uphold high standards
Compliance & Companywide Responsibilities
- Enforce safe working practices at all times
- Conduct risk assessments and adhere to health & safety policies
- Ensure compliance with company standards and regulations
- Review and optimise processes for efficiency
- Key role in customer service—impactful relationships with internal teams, freelancers, and clients
- Maintain a clean, organised work environment

Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
✅ Proven supervisor/managerial experience in a workshop or fabrication environment ✅ Deep knowledge of fabrication, carpentry, machining, and maintenance processes ✅ Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills ✅ Fluent in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) ✅ Ability to interpret and validate technical drawings, models, and schematics ✅ Problem-solving expertise with a hands-on approach ✅ Proficiency in IT, reporting, scheduling, and record-keeping ✅ Knowledge of health & safety regulations and workshop best practices ✅ Self-motivated team player who thrives in a 快刺激高压环境环境 ✅ Willingness to take ownership and accountability ✅ Skilled in planning, prioritising, delegating, and workload management ✅ Resilient and adaptable—ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines ✅ Positive “can-do” attitude—“the show must go on!” ✅ Prepared to work paid overtime, including weekends (7-day operational model) ✅ Strong MS Office skills (Outlook, Excel, Word)
Desirable
🔹 Trade/engineering qualification (fabrication, welding, mechanical) 🔹 CAD design experience in a related industry 🔹 Facilities/plant maintenance experience 🔹 First Aid/IOSH health & safety certification 🔹 Experience in design-for-manufacture (DFM) and fabricator collaboration 🔹 Familiarity with product development cycles and change management
