Job Title: Technical Designer

Overview:

Hello Flamingo is an award-winning Design & Manufacture company based in Newhaven, creating exciting amazing displays for retail.
Due to company expansion, we are looking to recruit an experienced Designer, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. The candidate will need a flair for creative thinking, conceptual and technical designs to work within our fast-paced office environment.

The candidate will have a strong knowledge of retail design. The role requires a high knowledge of 3D technical design with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, build and assembly. The finer detail of fixtures and fittings is also required to deliver end to end design through to concise production packs and technical packs for high end client structural approvals
The ideal candidate will have strong understanding of materials and machinery requirements.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Can work from design concepts to translate into technical drawings
  • Shows experience on a variety of projects across different sectors of the industry; from luxury to high street retailers and across window displays, Pop Ups and Shop fits
  • Works closely with the Project / Production Managers to discuss client needs and materials specifications
  • Strong technical drawing ability is backed up with solid understanding of production methods and best use of materials
  • Design clear and concise technical drawings, Handover designs to production in a comprehensive manner, with clear production packs showing methods of manufacturing and use of materials
  • Technical drawings to be sent to CNC, other machinery in a clear and organised manor
  • Is confident in liaising with suppliers and shows good communication skills with workshop and production teams

3D Skills:

  • Essential experience of Solidworks /Sketch
  • Excellent knowledge of Swood /Vectrics / V Carve
  • Ideally photoshop and illustrator
  • Knowledge of rendering software (ideally V Ray)
  • Good knowledge of Adobe InDesign & Photoshop & Illustrator
  • Good Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes

Essential Key Skills and Behaviour

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Sound commercial skills with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in this industry
  • Good knowledge of the materials and processes used in the manufacture of props.
  • A self-starting and motivating personality – a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Flexibility.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan, prioritise and adapt to changing demands.

This role is 100% office based - 5 days a week with parking
