Our team is focused on creating ambitious Battlefield experiences that push the boundaries of interactive entertainment through innovation, collaboration and technical excellence.

The Challenge Ahead

Criterion is looking for a Technical Designer to help build the future of Battlefield.

Working closely with Level Designers, Mission Designers and Gameplay teams, you'll develop the technical implementation that brings missions and gameplay systems to life. You'll combine problem-solving, scripting and systems thinking to create scalable solutions that enable designers to deliver dynamic and memorable player experiences.

Reporting to a Senior Technical Design Director, you'll contribute across multiple gameplay areas while championing technical quality, workflow improvements and best practices throughout development.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Level Designers and Mission Designers to develop engaging gameplay experiences.
  • Prototype gameplay ideas and evaluate technical feasibility before implementation.
  • Design, implement and maintain gameplay systems, scripting solutions and designer workflows.
  • Drive technical design reviews, identifying opportunities to improve systems, tools and implementation quality.
  • Champion scalable, high-quality scripting standards with performance and stability in mind.
  • Support and coach designers on engine workflows, scripting standards and technical best practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across design, engineering and content creation.
  • Participate in playtests, providing feedback and iterating on the overall player experience.

Qualifications

  • Passion for creating and playing first-person shooter games.
  • Professional experience as a Technical Designer or in a similar gameplay-focused technical role.
  • Experience using game engines and visual scripting tools such as Frostbite, Unreal Engine, Unity or equivalent.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and workflows.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills when working across local and distributed teams.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience scripting gameplay or missions.
  • Experience developing or working with AI gameplay systems.
  • Experience shipping or contributing to AAA game development.
  • Understanding of level design principles and gameplay design.
