Job Description
About the Role
As Technical Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our core banking platform, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions across multiple products and projects. Combining strategic oversight with hands-on technical leadership, you will be responsible for defining and driving technology strategies, technical roadmaps, architecture standards, and secure software development initiatives that support both current business needs and future growth.
Leading a team of core banking developers, you will foster a high-performance culture through effective leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance. You will empower teams to succeed by establishing clear technical standards, encouraging best practice, and creating an environment that supports innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Working closely with stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Cyber Security, Architecture, and Platform teams, you will develop and maintain technical roadmaps that align with organisational goals and provide a clear vision for the evolution of our technology landscape. You will identify opportunities to modernise existing capabilities, optimise technical platforms, and leverage emerging technologies to improve efficiency, scalability, and resilience.
A key aspect of the role is providing technical expertise across software architecture, design, and development methodologies, ensuring teams have the direction and governance needed to deliver exceptional outcomes. You will also champion the ongoing enhancement of development processes, embedding security throughout the software development lifecycle and helping the organisation stay ahead of emerging threats, industry trends, and technological advancements.
About You
We are looking for an experienced technology engineering leader with a strong background in core banking technologies and a passion for building high-performing teams. Combining strategic thinking with deep technical expertise, you are comfortable defining technical direction for core banking platforms. You will drive innovation, and translate business objectives into effective technology strategies that deliver long-term value.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
