Morson Edge is our specialist executive search and talent solutions division, partnering with organisations that are shaping the future of energy. We identify exceptional commercial and technical leaders to deliver high-impact projects across the energy transition and critical infrastructure sectors.

On behalf of a leading UK energy infrastructure business, we are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead a multidisciplinary engineering function supporting a portfolio of nationally significant energy assets.

The Opportunity

This is a senior leadership appointment with responsibility for defining engineering strategy, developing technical capability and leading a high-performing engineering team operating across complex, highly regulated onshore and offshore environments.

You'll play a key role in ensuring engineering excellence, regulatory compliance and safe, reliable asset performance, while supporting the delivery of major engineering programmes and future energy transition projects.

This role would suit an experienced engineering leader who combines strong technical credibility with exceptional people leadership and the ability to influence senior stakeholders across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team, creating a culture of technical excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Define and deliver the engineering strategy, ensuring safe, reliable and compliant operation of critical energy assets.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental and engineering legislation, including offshore regulatory requirements and Safety Case obligations.
  • Oversee engineering governance, technical standards, risk assessments and engineering documentation across both onshore and offshore operations.
  • Lead engineering support for regulatory inspections and ensure ongoing compliance with major hazard regulations.
  • Identify engineering and asset risks while developing effective mitigation strategies to protect business continuity and operational performance.
  • Lead the planning and execution of engineering projects, ensuring delivery to the highest standards of safety, quality, schedule and cost.
  • Optimise capital investment programmes through effective engineering governance, project management and commercial decision-making.
  • Manage engineering budgets, contracts and supplier performance, driving continuous improvement throughout the supply chain.
  • Support the growth of engineering services and identify opportunities to enhance technical capability across the wider business.
  • Develop engineering standards, technical procedures and best practice across the organisation.
  • Coach, mentor and develop engineers at all levels, supporting succession planning and future leadership capability.
  • Build strong relationships with regulatory bodies, contractors, clients and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Projects and Technical Authority teams to deliver engineering solutions supporting energy transition initiatives, including brownfield modifications, decommissioning, hydrogen storage and other low-carbon infrastructure projects.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
