Technical Director
Job Title: Technical Director
Location: Scotland
Type: Full-Time / Permanent

Our client, a leading regional airline, is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Technical Director to join its executive leadership team. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and be responsible for providing strategic leadership across all technical functions, ensuring the safe and compliant delivery of engineering and continuing airworthiness activities across a diverse aircraft fleet. In addition, the responsibilities will also include leading a multi-disciplinary team spanning CAMO, Part-145 maintenance, engineering commercial activities, procurement and logistics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership across engineering, CAMO, maintenance, procurement, and technical commercial functions
- Ensure full compliance with UK CAA, IOSA, and all applicable regulatory requirements, maintaining the integrity of CAMO and Part-145 approvals
- Drive aircraft availability, reliability, and maintenance performance through effective planning and performance management
- Lead safety initiatives, embedding a proactive safety culture across all technical functions
- Own and manage a significant engineering budget, ensuring delivery against financial targets whilst maintaining the highest safety standards
- Oversee major MRO, supplier, and OEM relationships, including contract negotiation and performance management
- Lead fleet transition programs, aircraft introductions, modifications, and technical projects
- Develop and mentor senior technical leaders, building organizational capability and succession plans across the engineering function
- Establish KPI frameworks and utilize engineering data to drive continuous improvement, cost reduction, and operational efficiencies
- Act as the primary technical interface with regulators, OEMs, MRO providers, and other key external stakeholders

Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years' experience within aviation engineering, including at least five years in a senior leadership role within an airline or MRO environment
- Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary technical organizations across CAMO and Part-145 environments
- Extensive knowledge of UK CAA continuing airworthiness and maintenance regulations
- Demonstrated experience managing significant engineering budgets and delivering financial performance
- Strong commercial acumen, including MRO contract negotiation, supplier management, and procurement oversight
- Track record of improving operational performance, reliability, and maintenance efficiency through measurable KPIs
- Experience leading fleet transitions, new aircraft introductions, or major modification programs
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at executive and regulatory level
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making capability, coupled with a continuous improvement mindset
- A Part-66 Licence, engineering degree, or formal leadership qualification would be advantageous. Experience within regional airline or rotary-wing operations is highly desirable
