SLR has a great opportunity for an experienced Principal or Technical Director to join its busy Acoustics and Vibration team to help play a lead role in the continued growth and development of this part of the business.

With 28 acousticians working across a number of offices including Nottingham, Exeter, Bristol, Bolton, Leeds, Newcastle and Glasgow, you will join with a great team to support you in project delivery, and great scope to make your mark on the business

The Role

Joining as a Technical Director, you will manage and grow a portfolio of clients/projects and help to manage and grow the technical team delivering these projects.

The team undertakes a range of environmental and buildings acoustics projects across a range of sectors, including Power (renewables - particularly windfarms), built environment, education, mining and quarrying and waste; and provide legislative and development planning advice to a wide range of clients; and we are seeking experienced professionals who can complement or potentially add to this breadth of expertise.

As well as playing a key role in the delivery of existing projects, you will have the opportunity to expand, diversify and grow our portfolio of projects and clients and make a real contribution to the Acoustics team - and to help shape the continued growth of the team.

We would ideally like to hire this role into our London or one of our Scottish offices, but there could be scope for other locations for the right person and we do offer good hybrid working options tailored to each role.

You Would Be Responsible For

Technical leadership and project delivery (across on/offshore wind, solar farms, battery storage, highways, rail, residential, commercial and mixed use developments) Leading/preparing/reviewing EIAs, ES's, Noise & Vibration chapters Technical Author/Reviewer for complex assessments Overseeing baseline survey design, modelling methodologies, impact assessment and development of mitigation strategies Acting as Noise and Vibration lead or technical authority on DCO and NSIP projects for applications, appeals, examinations and public representations Providing expert witness and advocacy across appeals, enquiries and preparing expert reports

About You

If you think this could be your next move, we would love to hear from you. We would envisage that you would be:

An experienced Noise and Vibration Consultant with a strong track record of delivering high‑quality technical advice across major infrastructure, development and environmental projects. A member of the Institute of Acoustics (MIOA), with extensive experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary teams, setting technical direction, and maintaining rigorous quality standards. Highly effective in work winning, having secured significant repeat and new business through trusted client relationships, bid leadership, and technical excellence. Recognised for commercial awareness, clear communication with clients and stakeholders, and the ability to balance project delivery with strategic growth objectives. Deep knowledge of UK noise and vibration standards, guidance, and planning policy
