Job Description
Our Transport teams specialise in the multidisciplinary design and delivery of major infrastructure projects—highways, rail networks, tunnels, bridges, and more—across the UK. As part of our nationwide growth strategy, we seek a technically strong and commercially astute leader to spearhead our Ground Engineering team in Newcastle.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will:
- Drive technical excellence and strengthen capabilities to support business growth in North England.
- Develop and manage key client relationships to secure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
- Foster high-performing teams through insightful guidance and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Delivery:
- Provide technical leadership to the Ground Engineering team, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality.
- Align projects with client and business objectives, managing stakeholder expectations at all stages.

Client & Market Engagement:
- Build and sustain strong industry relationships with existing, prospective, and past clients to expand AECOM’s market presence.
- Advocate for AECOM as the preferred consulting partner through strategic networking and thought leadership.

Technical Accountability:
- Take full ownership of ground engineering for multi-disciplinary projects, coordinating inputs, peer reviews, and design validation.
- Provide consultative advice from early-stage site selection and concept design through construction and testing.

Project Management & Governance:
- Oversee geotechnical projects end-to-end, from planning and scheduling to budget management and risk mitigation.
- Ensure adherence to technical standards and regulatory requirements.

Team Development & Culture:
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level team members, fostering their growth as future leaders.
- Cultivate a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams across Transport, Water, Power, and Tunnelling.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
- Degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering (BSc/MEng) with recognition (such as CEng/MICE).
- Proven leadership experience in a consultancy setting, driving technical and operational success.
- Strong track record of building and maintaining relationships with both internal partners and external clients.
- Commercial acumen, ability to identify high-value opportunities and navigate market dynamics.
- Commitment to mentoring talent and developing future engineers.
- Passion for continuous improvement in infrastructure solutions and best practices.

- Experience in advanced tunnelling, bridge, or transport engineering specialisms.
