Job Description
Alongside the UK & Ireland Water sector’s unprecedented growth opportunities, AECOM’s Water business is seeking a visionary Technical Director, Capture Management Lead to drive high-stakes strategic pursuits (£25m+ revenue) and spearhead capture strategy within the Water Strategy & Growth team.
This pivotal leadership role focuses on securing multi-disciplinary enterprise-level projects with flexibility (remote/virtual work + client travel as required).
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Development
- Lead £25m+ critical pursuits (ECP/Tier 2) as the Senior Capture Lead, owning the entire pursuit lifecycle from identification to submission.
- Develop and execute client-centric positioning & solution strategies for transformational programs, balancing new opportunities with existing accounts.
- Oversee pursuit governance, bid budgets, team selection, and supply chain management.
- Craft holistic capture strategies, including:
- Stage-gated client engagement (listening debates, debriefs, lessons learnt).
- Solution differentiation and campaign marcomms planning.
- Analyse competitive landscapes using win/loss data to refine strategy.
- Collaborate globally to diversify the pipeline, ensuring alignment with AECOM’s strategic growth ambitions.
- Partner across role owners like Sector & Client Account Managers while embedding the ’Our Client Promise’ framework.

Team Collaboration & Mentorship
- Facilitate multidisciplinary capture strategy workshops and coach pursuit teams in client positioning.
- Champion a collaborative culture by integrating bid, commercial, technical, and operating teams for proposal best practices.
- Guide the development of persuasive technical narratives (across all channels, not just RFPs).
- Embed organisational change by rolling out AECOM’s capture playbooks and training programmes.
Operational Excellence
- Drive win rates through best-practice sales lifecycle governance, including:
- Green Light / Go-No-Go compliance checks.
- Quality assurance integration.
- De-risk complex proposals via commercial, legal, financial, and contractual due diligence.
- Align pursuit strategies with global marketing campaigns to enhance brand visibility.

Qualifications & Experience
We’re looking for an ambitious leader with: ✔ Degree-level qualification in engineering, commercial, financial, business, or complementary field. ✔ Impeccable capture pipeline management experience with £25m+ pursuits in consultancy:
- Proven" track record in Wilson/Smith weather forecasting and delivering sales metrics.
- Must demonstrate collaboration at all levels — leading and motivating large, diverse pursuit teams. ✔ Water industry endorsement with Exposure to a global organisational matrix preferred.
