About the Fire Safety Engineering Team
Our Fire Safety Engineering team at Sweco has a core objective to:
- Provide strategic fire safety advice
- Develop fire safety strategies that satisfy functional requirements of building regulations
- Deliver innovative fire engineering solutions
We excel in technical expertise across our full suite of Fire services and work in partnership with clients to anticipate and resolve regulatory issues, ensuring successful project delivery.
Job Opportunity: Technical Director – Fire Engineering (Birmingham)
Role Overview
Join our Building Standards Division in Birmingham, working flexibly with a hybrid model (minimum 3 days office/site-based, adjustable start/finish times) on a mix of UK and international projects.
Our Fire Engineering team offers cost-effective, bespoke fire safety solutions across sectors, from design to construction completion.
## Key Responsibilities
- Develop complementary Fire Safety Strategies for design and construction phases
- Produce technical engineering analyses using guides for prescriptive and performance-based approaches
- Conduct site visits as required to ensure compliance
- Participate in internal and external meetings
- Prepare fee proposals for projects
- Foster technical knowledge within the team
- Oversee and manage projects from inception through completion
- Engage in client liaison and expectations management
- Review and authorise work conducted by team members

## Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in a similar Technical Director-like role with extensive fire safety engineering expertise
- Deep understanding of fire engineered solutions across disciplines
- Strong problem-solving/contingency planning skills with innovative, practical solutions
- Exceptional communication skills (written/verbal), adaptable for diverse audiences
- Strong consultancy and relationship management acumen
- Experience leading multi-site organisations
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Fire Engineering
- Full IFE (Institution of Fire Engineers) membership
- Working towards or having achieved IFE Chartership status
