Technical Director (Perm, UK, Remote)

This is a permanent full time remote opportunity for those based in the UK.

As part of our Delivery Management function, you will help our clients build solutions and platforms, launch new product ventures, and fundamentally change how they operate.

You will work as part of a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team, typically consisting of designers, developers, DevOps engineers, and members of the client team.

Whether you’re a Delivery Manager, Technical Lead, or Technical Director, you will act as the bridge between client needs and timelines, ensuring the delivery of innovative, scalable solutions.

About the Technical Director role

As a Technical Director at Nearform, you will provide strategic and technical leadership across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with business goals while fostering innovation and excellence. Your role will involve technical vision-setting, client engagement, and team leadership to drive both project success and long-term growth.

  • Technical Strategy & Leadership – Define and communicate a clear technical vision, ensuring best practices in architecture, software development, and emerging technologies. Act as the final authority in critical design and delivery decisions.
  • Client Engagement & Advisory – Serve as a trusted advisor to CIOs, CTOs, and senior stakeholders. Lead discovery workshops, translate business objectives into technical strategies, and develop tailored solution proposals.
  • Project Execution & Delivery – Oversee technical execution, ensuring quality, scalability, and maintainability. Monitor project health, identify risks, and ensure successful outcomes through proactive leadership.
  • Team Leadership & Talent Development – Work with resourcing teams to ensure the right talent is staffed on projects. Foster a culture of excellence, mentorship, and innovation across teams.
  • Financial & Operational Oversight – Manage project burn-down, optimize resource allocation, and identify revenue growth opportunities while maintaining financial accountability.
  • Industry Influence & Thought Leadership – Stay ahead of industry trends, contribute to open-source projects, and engage in public speaking, blog writing, and mentorship. Champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and sustainability initiatives within Nearform.

What we are looking for in this person

  • 15+ years of technical leadership experience, ideally within consulting, SaaS, or large-scale digital transformation projects.
  • Deep expertise in software architecture, cloud platforms, and modern development practices.
  • A strong track record of guiding technical decisions on complex, high-impact projects.
  • Experience leading pre-sales, discovery, and solution design discussions.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A consultative mindset, able to align business needs with technical strategies.
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills to influence at all levels.
  • Hands-on experience with AI, databases, distributed systems, and modern software engineering best practices.
  • Experience leading and mentoring senior software development teams
  • A passion for continuous learning, innovation, and professional excellence.

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience working in a fully remote, globally distributed environment.
  • Background in financial oversight of technology projects.
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects or technical thought leadership.
  • Prior exposure to AI-driven solutions and emerging technologies.

Our Interview Process

  • Talent Call (30 mins, Zoom) - An introductory conversation with a member of our Talent Team to learn more about your background, experience, and career goals. We'll also provide a high-level overview of Nearform and answer any questions you may have. This step helps us assess initial alignment.
  • Hiring Manager Interview (1 hour, Zoom) - A conversation with the Head of Delivery or CTO focused on your approach to delivery management, client collaboration, and technical problem-solving in an enterprise development setting. We'll also share more details about Nearform and the potential projects you may join.
  • Panel Interview (1.5 hours, Zoom) - A discussion with 2 Technical Directors focusing on your team leadership and delivery management approach in more detail. This includes scenario-based questions on team management, delivering technical work, and client collaboration, assessing how you drive success in an enterprise development environment.
  • Final Interview (45 mins, Zoom) - A final chat with the Managing Director for the region to discuss the plans for this role, Nearform’s strategy, and any questions you may have.
