Your Role: What You’ll Do
As Tech Director – Regulated Power Utilities, you will provide senior technical leadership across GHD’s regulated power and utilities portfolio, combining deep subject matter authority with client leadership, delivery excellence, and people development.
Provide Senior Technical Authority
- Act as technical lead and sign‑off authority for major regulated power and utilities engagements.
- Set and assure technical methodologies, frameworks, and governance across the practice.
- Lead and review work spanning electricity networks, regulation, renewables integration, system operability, and resilience.
- Provide authoritative advice to clients at executive, regulator, and board level.

Lead Client Engagement & Market Growth
- Build and expand senior relationships across utilities, regulators, system operators, and government bodies.
- Operate as a seller‑doer, shaping, winning, and delivering high‑value advisory work.
- Strengthen GHD’s profile and credibility in UK and international regulated energy markets.
Drive Delivery Excellence
- Lead multi‑million‑pound consulting engagements from bid through to delivery.
- Ensure excellence in quality, compliance, commercial performance, and client satisfaction.
- Contribute to long‑term programmes across regulatory strategy, network development, and future energy systems.
Develop People & Capability
- Mentor senior engineers, consultants, and emerging leaders across Energy Solutions.
- Shape and embed technical excellence and thought leadership within the practice.
- Support succession planning and the recruitment of senior technical talent.
Typical Projects You’ll Influence
- Electricity transmission and distribution advisory
- Regulatory price control strategy and economic assessment
- Grid integration of renewables and energy storage
- System operability, resilience, and future networks analysis
- Multi‑year government and regulator support programmes
What You’ll Bring: Skills & Experience
Essential
- Senior technical leadership experience within regulated electricity, power networks, or regulatory advisory.
- Credible operating experience engaging at executive, regulator, or board level.
- Proven track record leading and delivering complex consultancy engagements (ideally £1m+).
- Strong stakeholder engagement across utilities, regulators, and system operators.

- Established relationships within the UK utilities and regulatory landscape.
- Experience contributing to regulatory submissions, industry guidance, or thought leadership.
- Ability to bring or build technical followership.
- International regulated energy market exposure.
Working Arrangements
- UK‑based, with flexibility on office location.
- Preference for candidates without visa restrictions, due to international client work.
