Technical Estimator – High Security

Location: Manchester Salary: £42–£47K DOE + Company Car or Car Allowance Hours: 37 hours per week, Mon–Fri

About the Role

The Technical Estimator plays a vital role in supporting the business by producing accurate, compliant, and commercially viable estimates for electronic security system projects.

Working closely with commercial, operational, and project delivery teams, you will bridge technical design and commercial delivery, ensuring all proposals align with client expectations, operational requirements, and company standards.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in quality, enjoys solving technical challenges, and thrives in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

As Technical Estimator, you will:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for electronic security systems, including:
    • Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS)
    • Access control systems
    • Associated hardware, software, and infrastructure
  • Review tender documents, technical drawings, and specifications to assess:
    • Project requirements
    • Opportunities
    • Risks
  • Produce technical submissions, such as:
    • System designs
    • Equipment specifications
    • Bills of Quantities (BoQs)
    • Scope of Works documentation
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to:
    • Obtain quotations
    • Gather technical information
    • Ensure compliance with required standards
  • Collaborate with operations and project delivery teams to ensure:
    • Estimates are practical and deliverable
    • Alignment with installation methodologies
  • Support:
    • Pricing strategies
    • Value engineering
    • Cost optimisation initiatives
    • Commercial awareness and financial stewardship
  • Maintain and improve:
    • Estimating tools
    • Pricing databases
    • Standard costing models
  • Ensure all estimates comply with:
    • Company policies
    • Quality standards
    • Health & safety requirements
  • Support pre-sales activities, client engagement, and identification of new business opportunities
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of:
    • Estimating processes
    • Technical standards
    • Innovation

Skills & Experience Required

We are looking for someone with:

  • A strong understanding of electronic security systems, particularly:
    • PIDS (Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems)
    • Access control systems
    • (CCTV experience desirable*)
  • Experience in:
    • Technical estimating
    • Technical design within the security or construction industry
  • The ability to interpret:
    • Technical drawings
    • Specifications
  • Excellent attention to detail and commercial awareness
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Proficiency in:
    • Estimating software
    • Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word)
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to delivering:
    • High-quality work
  • Willingness to:
    • Undergo Security Clearances
  • Full Driving Licence
