Tech Lead – Manchester (Hybrid)

£85,000 – £100,000 Technologies: React, TypeScript, .NET Core, PHP

About the Role

We’re partnering with a fast-growing Manchester-based business that is rebuilding its technology capability from the ground up.

They’re looking for a hands-on Tech Lead to drive one of their core product squads. This is a genuine engineering leadership role for someone who still enjoys coding and staying close to the work.

Key Objectives:

  • Lead a cross-functional squad that delivers customer-facing products used by millions of members across retail, rewards, and ecommerce-style digital experiences
  • Fostering a culture of experimentation and fail-fast learning
  • Advocating for a significant AI strategy, aiming to enhance developer workflows and member personalisation
  • Transitioning from a PHP monolith to a React microservices architecture while ensuring existing systems (e.g. CMS spikes) remain functional
  • Investing in AI tooling, engineering capabilities, and shaping technical direction and culture from an early stage.

Responsibilities

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Hands-on software engineering (70–80%) Alongside technical leadership for a team of around three people, focusing on quality engineering practices.

  • Architecture & Technical Leadership

    • Overseeing a modern, full-stack environment centred around React, TypeScript, and .NET Core.
    • Collaborating between Product, UX, and engineering teams to deliver customer-facing features
    • Driving best practices in:
      • Clean architecture
      • Automated testing
      • CI/CD pipelines
      • Performance & maintainability

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
