The role
This company builds the real-time messaging infrastructure behind products used by millions. Think chat, collaboration, financial data, and live streams, handling billions of messages daily across millions of devices for major brands. They're Series B funded, backed by leading investors, and operate with a deep commitment to developers.
This is a Staff-level, full-stack Technical Lead role. You'll report directly to the CTO, co-own the DevEx vision with the PM, and lead a team of five engineers. Your scope is the entire customer-facing web application suite: analytics, docs, marketing site, sign-up, and billing. This isn't a feature factory; you'll set the technical architecture, push for full-stack ownership, and be the catalyst for how AI tools are adopted. You're building for yourself, closing the feedback loop in a way few roles can.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The work
Own the end-to-end technical vision and architecture for all customer-facing web applications: analytics dashboard, documentation, marketing site, and billing flows. Lead a team of five full-stack engineers, fostering a culture of rapid iteration and principal ownership over features, not just execution. Act as the catalyst for integrating AI tools and LLMs into the team's daily engineering workflow, boosting velocity and judgment. Set the bar for code quality, testing, and incident response, while also driving hiring, performance, and career development for your team. Collaborate closely with SDK and real-time infrastructure teams, ensuring a seamless experience from the core platform to the developer's browser.
What You Bring
You're a strong full-stack JavaScript engineer (React, TypeScript) with solid backend experience in Ruby on Rails or Node.js. A genuine point of view on developer experience, with a track record of shipping solutions for developer or technical personas. You are your own customer. Proven experience integrating LLMs and AI tools into engineering workflows to enhance productivity and velocity. Prior experience leading a small engineering team, balancing hands-on technical leadership with people development. You thrive in rapid iteration, growth-stage environments where you co-create features with PMs and customers.
