We are looking for a Technical Lead – Digital Manufacturing Tools to support the growth of our Digital Manufacturing and Innovation Engineering capability.

This is a full-time role designed for someone who is passionate about applying digital technologies to real-world manufacturing and industrial challenges.

The successful candidates will be supporting HSSMI’s clients with digital transformation strategy, digital manufacturing tools and techniques throughout the product development cycle and developing and deploying emerging and existing digital tools.

The role offers structured development, mentoring, and hands-on project delivery experience across Digital Twins, NVIDIA Omniverse, Cyber-Physical Systems, IIoT, AR/VR, cloud technologies, and advanced manufacturing systems.

Principal accountabilities:

  • To support the development of digital manufacturing tools, methods, and techniques
  • To support digital transformation projects including digital and IT strategy
  • To lead the 3D layout development that supports process definition and scale up
  • To support PLM deployment
  • To support the development of Virtual and Augmented reality applications
  • To support the development of digital capabilities through innovation of new and emerging digital technologies.
  • To develop the 2D / 3D layout drawings of a manufacturing system that ensures all interacting disciplines are considered and catered for.
  • Lead the building of consortia and development of research proposals to secure grant funding to de-risk highly innovative projects.
  • Lead technical work packages of research projects.
  • Generate new leads to support the securement of commercial orders for the provision of consultancy services in Digital manufacturing tools.
  • Lead the development of new commercial delivery methodologies, tools and services.
  • Keep abreast of the latest innovations and trends in digital manufacturing and feed into service definition and delivery.
  • Occasionally represent HSSMI outcomes of projects and strategic aims at local and international events.
  • Maintain personal and team compliance regarding internal processes and procedures.
  • The role will require frequent visits to SME sites.

Job context

The Digital Manufacturing Tools Solution area is a core area within HSSMI, which has seen an increasing requirement to support customers in collaboration with other solution areas. Mainly with the digital facility design as well as implementation of digital and IT strategy within UK manufacturing.

The Technical Lead role will work closely daily with the Digital Manufacturing Tools Manager, to develop innovative solutions and solve problems for key clients across a spectrum of industries.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or relevant industrial experience.
  • Practical experience of working in manufacturing.
  • Process mapping knowledge preferable.
  • Digital readiness assessment knowledge preferable.
  • Digital systems ERP/MRP, CRM, PLM, MEP knowledge preferable.
  • Confident in planning and organising work to meet timed deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills – written, verbal listening and presentation.
  • Can work independently and in team environments.
  • A flexible approach to cope with frequent change.
  • A high level of motivation, initiative and creativity.
  • Good written and spoken English and technical report writing capability.
  • Experience in leading projects and coordinating people.
  • Experience of developing innovative ideas in the manufacturing context.
  • Confident in leading workshops and high-level meetings.
  • Confident in working with customers and suppliers up to senior level.
  • Knowledge of Virtual commissioning.
  • Confident in using industry standard CAD tools such as Autodesk Factory design collection, Siemens NX, Catia V5 or similar.
  • Knowledge of 3D layout development.
  • Experience of Manufacturing processes and systems including PLM, Process and Facility planning.
  • Appreciation of Design for Manufacture, Lean Manufacturing principles and productivity.
  • Appreciation of Digital Manufacturing technologies including digital twin development, Digital transformation, Virtual and Mixed reality applications.
  • Knowledge and experience of dissemination to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Actively develop appropriate external contacts to facilitate future collaboration and funding opportunities.
  • Support the development of new projects in the area of Digital Manufacturing.
  • Produce high-quality research reports and/or publications as required.
