Location: West Yorkshire -This role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working ( 1-2 days in the office a week – Bradford/Leeds)
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday

We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.
New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. The Technology team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

The Software Development Technical Lead will play a key role in building, supporting and improving both cloud-based and on-premise solutions that keep our business running. You’ll deliver high quality software that follows our architectural standards and development best practices, ensuring our technology is sustainable, secure and cost effective. We’re on the hunt for someone who genuinely loves building great software with older and modern C# NET Core technology stacks. If you get a kick out of turning tricky problems into clean, reliable solutions you’ll fit right in.
Where you fit in:
As our Technical Lead you will: Act as Technical Lead on large or complex projects owning end-to-end solution design, ensuring alignment with architectural principles, managing risks, and overseeing delivery quality. Balance coding with people leadership, including running 1:1s, performance reviews, and mentoring several direct reports. Ensure effective documentation, operational readiness, and a seamless handover into support. Lead investigations into performance issues or outages and help ensure smooth transitions into BAU. Shape and influence technology strategy roadmaps, championing best practice and driving high quality solutions. Stay up to date with emerging technology and bring fresh ideas on how we can use it to improve our services. Encourage innovation, share your expertise, and help grow the skills and resilience of the wider team. Work closely with technology partners to ensure great service, value for money, and continuous improvement.
What skills & qualifications you will need: Strong technical leadership skills with experience building applications with C# .NET including working with .NET 3.5/4.8 frameworks, C# .NET Core and SQL Server. Confident writing and optimising SQL queries, scripts and stored procedures. Practical experience with Octopus Deploy, Azure Pipelines and RESTful APIs. Solid understanding of clean code practices, Agile delivery and thorough code review. Able to troubleshoot production issues and improve or refactor legacy codebases. Excellent communicator who can simplify complex technical concepts for all audiences. Proven leadership experience managing and developing engineering teams.
