BJAK is using AI, automation, and backend systems to power end-to-end insurance operations. Our platform handles customer journeys including quotes, insurer integrations, document processing, policy issuance, endorsements, and claims at scale.
We're looking for a talented Technical Lead based in the United Kingdom to design and build systems that support BJAK’s expansion into the UK market, including new product workflows, integrations, regulatory requirements, and platform capabilities needed to operate in a new region.
This is a fully remote position where you'll collaborate closely with our Malaysia-based engineering, product, and operations teams to deliver production-grade systems for international expansion.
The Mission
Lead engineering efforts to design and build scalable systems that enable BJAK’s expansion into the UK market, ensuring our platform can support new insurance workflows, regulatory requirements, and operational models in a new geography.
What You’ll Own
- Lead delivery of engineering initiatives supporting BJAK’s UK market expansion.
- Translate UK business, regulatory, and operational requirements into scalable system designs.
- Design backend systems and platform capabilities for new insurance products and workflows.
- Build and extend core services to support multi-region, multi-market platform operations.
- Define system architecture for integrations with insurers, partners, and external APIs in the UK ecosystem.
- Ensure platform readiness for compliance, data handling, and operational requirements in a new market.
- Review architecture and implementation quality to ensure scalability, correctness, and reliability.
- Work closely with product, operations, QA, and DevOps to deliver end-to-end UK expansion initiatives.
- Improve system stability through monitoring, incident response, debugging, and root cause analysis.
- Ensure safe, reliable, and controlled production releases for expansion-related systems.
What We're Looking For
- Strong software engineering experience building production-grade backend or distributed systems.
- Proven experience leading technical delivery of complex systems or platform initiatives.
- Ability to design scalable system architecture across multiple services and domains.
- Strong understanding of APIs, backend systems, and distributed system principles.
- Experience working on multi-region or internationalized systems is a plus.
- Hands-on engineering capability with willingness to contribute to code and implementation.
- Strong judgment on architecture trade-offs, scalability, and delivery risks.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams including product and operations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Calm under pressure when handling production issues or complex delivery timelines.
- High ownership mindset with strong execution from design through production.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
