Role description

Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Technical Lead – Vehicle Electronics to be based at our customer’s site in Gaydon.

Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

Role Summary:

The Technical Lead – Vehicle Electronics is responsible for leading the design, development, integration, and validation of electronic systems and ECUs across the vehicle platform. This role requires deep technical leadership in automotive electronics, embedded systems, communication networks, diagnostics, power electronics, and emerging SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) architectures. The Technical Lead ensures robust system performance, compliance with automotive standards, and drives innovation in vehicle electronic system design, integration, and lifecycle management.

Dimension of function:

  • Lead multi‑domain integration of vehicle ECUs and electronic systems
  • Own architecture definition, interface management, and system functionality alignment
  • Drive cross‑functional collaboration between software, hardware, diagnostics, and calibration teams
  • Ensure compliance with functional safety, cybersecurity, and OEM engineering standards
  • Enable continuous improvement and innovation in vehicle electronics design and development
  • Direct impact on system quality, reliability, manufacturability, and on‑road performance

Areas of responsibility:

1. Architecture & Systems Engineering

  • Lead architecture design for ECUs and vehicle electronic systems
  • Define and manage system interfaces, signal lists, communication matrices
  • Convert feature requirements into system/ECU specifications

2. ECU Development & Integration

  • Guide hardware–software integration for powertrain, chassis, body, ADAS, and infotainment ECUs
  • Oversee CAN/FlexRay/Ethernet communication setup and diagnostics
  • Lead debugging of electronics, sensors, power stages, and embedded controllers

3. Validation & Compliance

  • Define system-level validation strategies (bench, HIL, vehicle testing)
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 26262, ISO 21434, ASPICE, OEM guidelines
  • Drive FMEA, FMEDA, and risk-based analysis activities

4. Tools & Automation

  • Expertise in Vector tools (CANoe, CANalyzer), ETAS/INCA, dSPACE ControlDesk
  • Develop scripts/automation (Python, CAPL, MATLAB)
  • Optimize toolchains for ECU development, flashing, testing, and diagnostics

5. Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead technology adoption for SDVs, EV power electronics, and zonal architectures
  • Improve design processes, simulation capabilities, and diagnostic strategies
  • Drive reusability and modular design for large-scale vehicle platforms

Knowledge / Experience

Education

  • Master’s degree in Electrical / Electronics / Computer / Automotive Engineering (or equivalent)

Experience

  • Experience in automotive electronics / ECU development
  • Strong expertise in embedded systems, communication networks, and diagnostics
  • Demonstrated experience in leading multi-ECU integration programs
  • Hands-on debugging and issue resolution for electronics, sensors, and power electronics
  • Experience with EV systems, ADAS, gateways, telematics, or body electronics (preferred)
