Technical Manager Location: Darlington / Hybrid (regular travel to London, Aberdeen and other UK sites) Type: Permanent | Full-Time
About the Role JAB Recruitment is currently supporting a major UK energy infrastructure organisation in the search for a Technical Manager. As Technical Manager, you will take technical leadership of the UK’s first CO₂ transport and storage network. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead a highly capable technical team and provide strategic direction, technical assurance and governance across a complex integrated system including onshore pipelines, compression facilities, offshore infrastructure, wells and subsurface assets. The successful candidate will play a critical role in overseeing project delivery through to start-up in 2028, ensuring operational readiness and supporting future network expansion opportunities. Acting as the key interface between technical, commercial, regulatory and operational functions, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contractual, regulatory and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities Provide overall technical leadership across the development, delivery and operational readiness of a major CCS network. Provide oversight of the contracted operator through structured reporting, reviews and risk management activities. Support the transition from construction and commissioning into long-term operations. Lead integrated technical and economic assessments for future expansion opportunities. Develop and maintain technical standards, assurance frameworks and governance processes. Provide technical input to regulatory and government submissions. Act as Secretary to the Technical & Operations Committee and support Board reporting and decision-making. Manage relationships with regulators, shareholders, joint venture partners and external stakeholders. Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing technical team.

Requirements Essential Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). Proven track record of safely delivering complex energy or infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of integrated assets including pipelines, processing facilities, subsea infrastructure, wells and subsurface. Experience across the full asset lifecycle, from concept and FEED through to operations. Proficiency in capital project stage-gate processes. Experience with procurement, contracts and operational readiness. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation. Direct experience in CCUS or CO₂ transportation and storage projects. Knowledge of UK regulatory bodies including DESNZ, Ofgem, NSTA, OPRED and HSE. Joint Venture and Board governance experience. Senior leadership experience within the energy or infrastructure sectors.
