Technical Manager

Allerton Bishop is delighted to be partnering with a global manufacturing organisation to appoint a Technical Manager for one of its flagship UK production facilities.

This is a pivotal leadership position responsible for engineering, maintenance, utilities, facilities, and capital projects, ensuring the site delivers world-class operational performance, asset reliability, and continuous improvement.

Working as a key member of the Plant Leadership Team, you will develop the site's long-term engineering strategy while leading a multidisciplinary team of over 60 individuals responsible for asset management, maintenance excellence, digitalisation, and operational efficiency.

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to make a significant impact within a highly automated manufacturing environment by:

  • Leading engineering, maintenance, utilities, and facilities functions
  • Developing and executing the site's engineering and asset management strategy
  • Driving equipment reliability and maintenance excellence
  • Delivering capital investment and engineering projects
  • Improving operational efficiency through Lean, TPM, and continuous improvement
  • Supporting sustainability initiatives including energy reduction and carbon footprint programmes
  • Developing high-performing technical teams and succession plans
  • Partnering with global engineering and operational excellence functions to implement best practice across the site

About You

We're looking for an experienced engineering leader who can demonstrate:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven leadership of engineering and maintenance teams within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience managing CAPEX projects and engineering budgets
  • Strong knowledge of asset management, reliability, and maintenance systems
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or Six Sigma methodologies
  • Experience implementing engineering improvements and operational excellence programmes
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, food, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated manufacturing environments would be advantageous
