📍 Harlow, Essex
💰 £45K to £48500 DOE + Benefits

Lead Food Safety, Quality & Compliance in a Growing Manufacturing Environment
We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager ideally in the flour industry to take ownership of food safety, quality management and regulatory compliance within a well-established food production business based in Harlow.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technical professional who is passionate about maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality assurance and continuous improvement while leading and developing technical teams.

The Role

As Technical Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the business maintains full compliance with food safety, quality, and industry standards. You will lead the Food Safety & Quality Management System, oversee HACCP processes and work closely with operational teams to drive best practice across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain the Food Safety & Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Ensure HACCP plans remain effective, current, and fully implemented.
  • Manage compliance with BRC, GMP, FEMAS and relevant UK and EU food regulations.
  • Oversee food safety records, traceability documentation, and product quality controls.
  • Manage supplier approval processes, specifications, and accreditation documentation.
  • Handle customer and supplier technical queries and documentation requests.
  • Conduct internal audits and manage corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensure document control processes are maintained and regularly reviewed.
  • Manage relationships with pest control and cleaning contractors, ensuring recommendations are implemented.
  • Audit hygiene and cleaning standards to drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and deliver food safety training across the production environment.
  • Support the delivery of health and safety training initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with department managers to maintain and improve operational standards.

About You

We're looking for a technical professional who combines strong food manufacturing knowledge with excellent leadership and communication skills.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience in a Technical Manager, Quality Manager or Senior Technical role within food manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, food safety systems and quality management.
  • Experience working with BRC, GMP and food industry compliance standards.
  • Proven internal auditing experience.
  • Experience managing technical documentation, supplier compliance, and traceability systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage teams across production and operational functions.

Desirable

  • Experience within flour milling, ingredients, bakery, or wider food manufacturing sectors.
  • Food Safety and HACCP qualifications.
  • Knowledge of VACCP, TACCP and Food Defence principles.
  • Health & Safety training experience.
