Technical Manager - Automotive and Industrial

Technical Manager – Automotive and Industrial (UK-Based)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company focused on a critical role at the cutting edge of open-source innovation, embedded systems engineering, and automotive-grade software development. The role helps deliver secure and reliable Linux-based solutions in highly regulated industrial and automotive environments, supported by a distributed team.

You will lead and grow an engineering team to adapt platform technologies while meeting stringent safety, security, and compliance standards. This dynamic technical leadership and strategic execution role requires deep collaboration with product management to shape a clear engineering roadmap and influence external automotive and industrial ecosystems.

Suitable for a passionate leader who thrives in scalable systems, open-source environments, and remote-first setups, while promoting engineering excellence globally.


Accountabilities

  • Define and execute the engineering strategy and roadmap for automotive and industrial software, aligning with product leadership and business goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a globally distributed engineering team, focusing on high quality delivery and technical excellence.
  • Drive adoption of Linux-based and open-source solutions, tailored for automotive and industrial use cases, ensuring compliance with safety and security standards.
  • Collaborate with product management and cross-functional stakeholders to develop engineering plans and deliver on strategy.
  • Represent the organization in automotive and industrial communities, including standards consortia, partners, and customers.
  • Encourage modular agile development practices, technical excellence, and continuous improvement across teams and processes.
  • Foster a strong engineering culture, aligning with company values while ensuring scalability and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Proven software engineering expertise with deep knowledge of Linux systems, embedded development, and open-source technologies.
  • Hands-on experience in automotive or industrial domains, familiar with standards such as:
    • ISO 26262 (Road Vehicles – Functional Safety)
    • ISO 21434 (Road Vehicles – Cybersecurity Engineering)
    • IEC 61508 (Functional Safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic Safety-Related Systems)
    • SOTIF (System-Level Safety Assessment for Software in Road Vehicles)
    • ASPICE (Automotive SPICE – Processes for the Development of Vehicle Software)
  • Strong experience with C/C++ and Python in embedded or systems environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership in engineering teams, preferably in a global or distributed setting.
  • Robust understanding of functional safety, cybersecurity, and compliance within regulated environments.
  • Experience in agile development, delivering high-quality software on time.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
