Technical Manager

London - Hybrid 3 days/week in the office

This is a great opportunity for a Technical Manager to join an established and scaling FMCG business. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of food safety, quality, legality, and compliance with BRC standards across our client’s product range. You will oversee technical and quality processes, proactively managing relationships with internal teams and external suppliers, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to support the company’s rapid growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality and Compliance:
    • Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company’s BRC certification.
    • Develop and manage robust HACCP systems across all manufacturing sites and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • Own quality control processes, ensuring product safety, quality, and consistency throughout manufacturing and supply chain operations.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections of manufacturing facilities to assure adherence to company and BRC standards.
  • Supplier Management:
    • Ensure suppliers and co-manufacturers adhere strictly to quality standards and BRC requirements.
    • Perform risk assessments and supplier audits, addressing any non-conformances through effective corrective action plans.
    • Collaborate closely with suppliers to continually enhance product quality based on consumer feedback, QC data, and internal metrics.
  • Product Development & Launch:
    • Work cross-functionally with R&D, commercial, and operational teams to ensure technical feasibility, quality compliance, and successful product launches.
    • Oversee product technical specifications, artwork, and labelling to ensure legal compliance and accuracy.
    • Lead technical sign-off for new product introductions, ensuring adherence to critical paths and timelines.
  • Incident and Complaint Management:
    • Act as crisis coordinator, managing incident responses swiftly and effectively to minimize business impact.
    • Oversee customer and consumer complaints, performing root cause analyses and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Technical and Operational Excellence:
    • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to optimize quality processes and operational efficiency.
    • Provide technical guidance and training to internal teams to enhance overall quality and technical awareness.
    • Keep abreast of changing regulatory requirements and ensure all operations are informed and compliant.

  • Previous experience in a Technical or Quality Management role within food manufacturing, with proven expertise in maintaining BRC certification.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, food safety standards, and quality management systems.
  • Previous experience in supplier management, auditing, and complaint resolution.
  • Experience with dairy, beverages, or plant-based products beneficial but not essential.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, capable of effectively collaborating at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
