The Role
The Technical Manager will support the Technical Director, providing a high-quality technical management service across all aspects of building services. Responsibilities include managing technical risk, ensuring compliance with technical software, construction standards, and regulations, and bridging design integrity from inception to client handover.
The role requires a proved track record in senior project delivery, technical collaboration, and risk management while working with internal teams, clients, consultants, and suppliers.
Responsibilities
General Duties
- Lead and manage technical discussions across the entire project lifecycle, ensuring the efficient and compliant delivery of high-quality electrical building services designs.
- Ensure cost-effectiveness alongside technical excellence while adhering to regulatory and legal requirements.
- Act as a technical liaison across the organisation, including clients, construction teams, and sub-contractors.
Key Responsibilities by Phase

Pre-Construction Phase
- Manage internal designs for bids, tenders, and pre-construction deliverables.
- Conduct scope gap analysis, risk assessment, and value engineering (VE).
- Review Employer and stakeholder requirements for accuracy and bolster feasibility.
- Assess tender submissions for compliance, identifying cost-effective solutions.
- Assist the Technical & Pre-Construction Directors in producing electrical discipline-related fee proposals.

Design Phases (Stages 1-6)
- Develop building service evolution from concept through detailed design.
- Conduct internal and external design reviews to ensure technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and best-value delivery.
- Facilitate consultant appointments, specifying project scope and deliverables.

Construction Phase
- Review Contractor Design Proposals (CDP) for technical feasibility.
- Compile regular buildability reviews to assess efficiency improvements.
- Track site compliance through design progress and technical surveys.
- Liaise with construction supervisors during installation and commissioning phases.

Handover Phase
- Support the Employer design acceptance process.
- Review Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals ensuring compliance with design documentation.
- Validate alignment of design with regulatory and legislative data protection protocols.
Upheld Standards
- Safety in Design advocate—driving risk mitigation and BS5975 compliance.
- Lead HAZID (Hazard Identification) panels and contribute to HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Studies) assessments.
- Liasing with HSEQ (Health, Safety Environment & Quality) to ensure adherence to legislation and regulatory bodies (e.g., Health & Safety Executive, Environmental Agencies).
Digital & Collaboration
Leverage digital technologies for process improvements and maintain consistent technical documentation through:
- BIM tools: Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Lighting/lightning evaluation: Dialux, Relux, Lightning Protection Risk Assessment Calculations.
- Performance engineering: Amtech, ElectricalOM.
- 2D/3D AutoCAD modelling & industry web resources.
- Regular design team collaborations to address and resolve technical challenges and queries.
Requirements
Experience
- Proven senior technical-level project experience (Architect, Technologist, Architectural Technologist, or similar). -Credentials supporting leadership responsibilities (B.Eng/BSc preferred).
- Industry knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CDM, and fire safety legislations.
- Green Electrical Standards: BS7671 (Wiring Regulations) & BS Code of Practice compliance.
Technical Proficiency
✔ Strong national expertise in electrical and building service systems, including:
- LV/High Voltage (MV) Power Distribution / Small Power/Earthing Systems
- Lighting/energy efficiency design via software (Dialux, Relux)
- Fire/lightning protection & Security/CCTV Systems
- Design coordination across multiple stakeholders

✔ Extensive automated design tools use:
- CAD: 2D/3D & AutoCAD, Revit Suite
- CDCP: Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Construction Cloud
- Technical Analysis: Amtech, ElectricalOM
✔ Recent experience in readies for commercial deployment, including tender reviews, technical modifications, and **HVAC **cauditor roles for construction peers.
Industry Compliance
- Membership/working towards chartered status within a relevant professional body (MCIAT desirable*).
- ARB Registration for commissioned designs (desirable).
- Certifications in NFPA/BS/IEC electrical standards (e.g., certification deliveries for legacy systems).
Qualifications
- Professional degree: B.Eng/BSc degree in Electrical/Environmental Engineering/Architecture.
- Minimum 5 years on-the-job specialism with hands-on construction roles.
- Technical qualifications accepted as proof of due diligence in installation standards.

- Base Salary: £80,000 – £90,000 per calendar year.
