Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ)

Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) is one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects, transforming depleted gas fields in the East Irish Sea into a world‑class carbon storage hub. By safely capturing, transporting and permanently storing CO₂ from heavy industry, MNZ will play a vital role in helping the UK achieve its net zero targets while supporting thousands of skilled jobs across the country.

THE OPPORTUNITY – TECHNICAL MANAGER

As a member of the MNZ leadership team, contributes to the development and execution of MNZ providing direction and leadership of the engineering strategy and delivery. Through strategic leadership of the Engineering disciplines, drives the delivery of safe and efficient design, construction and future development including future decommissioning. Ensures that all engineering activities are carried out in compliance with company procedures, industry standards and the applicable regulations.

  • Duration: 1 year contract
  • Contract Type: PAYE
  • Day Rate: TBC

  • Manage the multi-disciplinary design, engineering and development of a major CCS project, working with and leading supply chain partners and the Discipline Engineering teams to execute a complex multi-billion pound investment from Concept, through FEED and execution and into operations.
  • Coach, mentor and guide to deliver success.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of Design Integrity and other engineering standards.
  • Overall owner of the scope and quality of Engineering Standards and Engineering Procedures and Processes. Responsible for ensuring that the ownership of Standards and Procedures are appropriately delegated to individual Technical Authorities.
  • Owner of project development and design Management of Change standard and procedures.
  • Responsible for the leadership and management of centralised engineering resources in support project delivery.
  • Responsible for the prioritization and deployment of engineering resources and supply chain partners across the project development requirements.
  • Overall owner of the scope and quality of Technical Risk Management Standards. Responsible for ensuring that the ownership of aspects of risk management are appropriately managed.
  • Works closely with the project manager and Supply Chain leadership to ensure that outsourced Engineering services are selected and implemented to ensure optimal consistency, quality and cost efficiency.
  • Responsible for the leadership of the review and adoption of new and emergent technologies. Company focal point for interaction with the external engineering bodies.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders, including clients, contractors and community members to ensure project success.
  • Develop and monitor project budgets, ensuring that all costs are controlled and projects are completed within program.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, we are looking for:

  • A highly delivery-focused individual with excellent project engineering management experience
  • Considerable ability in management change
  • Ability to understand, analyse, prioritise and manage multiple layers of engineering risk.
  • Must be able to make challenging business decisions, balancing technical and business risk, both in the short and long term
  • Excellent communications skills, results oriented, proactive and adaptable, collaborative, decisive and motivated.
  • A chartered, degree qualified Engineer
