Senior Technical Manager

About the Role

The technical manager is expected to lead technical operations and strategy by maintaining high internal performance standards while proactively engaging with:

  • External stakeholders
  • Market trends
  • Customer needs

to drive continuous improvement and competitive advantage.


Key Responsibilities

Supporting the Plant Manager in technical decision-making and project lifecycle management, core duties include:

  • Leadership & Team Development

    • Lead, mentor, and develop the technical team to ensure high performance and capability growth
    • Collaborate cross-functionally (production, quality, supply chain) to optimise operations
  • Operational Ownership

    • Own and continuously improve internal processes, systems, and technical standards
    • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
    • Manage budgets, resources, and project delivery within agreed constraints
    • Maintain asset reliability, maintenance strategies, and technical documentation

  • Continuous Improvement & Innovation

    • Drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
    • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity
    • Identify opportunities for innovation, cost reduction, and performance enhancement
  • External & Strategic Engagement

    • Act as a technical interface with customers, suppliers, and external partners
    • Understand and translate customer requirements into technical deliverables
    • Support business development, bids, and technical proposals
    • Represent the organisation in audits, client meetings, and technical reviews
    • Build strategic partnerships with suppliers and technology providers

Qualifications

Education

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering / Technical discipline

Experience

  • Proven experience in technical leadership or engineering management
  • Experience working with customers or external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and best practices

Core Skills

  • Communication (verbal and written)
  • Self-motivated, able to work under pressure and independently
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to make quick decisions
  • Strong organisational and team leadership abilities
  • Expertise in process improvement and validation
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards relevant to the industry
  • Ability to identify trends and contextually apply insights
