Technical Manager/Start Up Section Lead

Location: Cumbria

Role Description:

As a Start Up Section Lead you will be aligned to the Start Up Commissioning and Pre-Operations delivery team throughout the project lifecycle. You will carry out a managerial role in development and delivery of Commissioning and Pre-Operations work scope for your assigned area throughout the lifecycle of the project. You will manage a team to deliver work and ensure activities are delivered in line with the established Start Up, Commissioning and Pre-Operations processes. You will collate and report on progress and identify and escalate risk and issues. You will ensure that appropriate structure and arrangements are in place to facilitate delivery.

You will collaborate with an internal multidisciplined project delivery team and interface with external stakeholders/vendors. You will lead the Commissioning Engineers through the project lifecycle to ensure safe and effective delivery of Start Up, Commissioning and Pre-Operations work scope.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a team delivering Start Up, Commissioning, and Pre-Operations work scope through the project lifecycle at various locations as required
  • Safe delivery of Start Up, Commissioning, and Pre-Operations activities to the required level of quality in line with the processes
  • Planning, balancing and prioritizing resources to support successful delivery.
  • Ensuring deployed resources are suitability qualified and experienced for the work they are undertaking.
  • Develop delivery plans in line with the overall project strategies and schedules.
  • Managing work progress and performance in line with project priorities and taking appropriate corrective actions where necessary
  • Manage team resources to support successful delivery to an agreed strategy and plan in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Reviewing and reporting on work progress and performance, taking appropriate corrective actions where necessary.
  • Provide input into other project workstreams to ensure that start up, commissioning and pre-operational requirements are included and delivered i.e. Design, Safety Case, Procurement, Construction & Completions, Project Controls
  • Represent Start Up, Commissioning and Pre-Operations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Undertake and input to risk management for your Section
  • Manage effective coordination between delivery teams and all stakeholders to enable safe delivery of work
  • Ongoing coaching and development within the team.
  • Use and promote Project Delivery Fundamentals and required organisational practices in the delivery of work

Essentials:

  • HNC or equivalent Level 4 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline or Incorporated Engineer status
  • Experience in managing an engineering or technical group delivering technical packages with demonstrable evidence of success against agreed project schedules.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing multi-disciplined teams.
  • Willing and able to travel on extended stays to various locations other than Sellafield Site in West Cumbria, the wider UK and, on occasion, overseas to meet demands of the Project delivery.
  • Computer literate (MS applications including Word, Excel) with evidence of producing commissioning test documentation and reports.
  • Experience in fault finding within a technical, engineering or operational environment.
  • Experience in setting to work of new systems.
  • Experience in producing Start Up, Commissioning and Pre-Operations documentation.

Desirables:

  • Degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in relevant discipline or Chartered Engineer status and able to present qualification certification.
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience in managing operations/commissioning activities in a highly regulated environment.
  • Have nuclear sector experience, including working within large scale projects.
