Technical Officer (Developer Services)

Senior Developer Services Technical Leader - Field Operations

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced and driven technical leader to manage a team of Developer Services Inspectors, providing expert guidance and oversight across all aspects of Developer Services Field operations.

This role is responsible for:

  • Driving technical excellence
  • Improving operational performance
  • Ensuring outstanding customer outcomes through effective leadership, performance analysis, and continuous improvement
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and industry partners

You will:

  • Lead technical projects
  • Support innovation and strategic development
  • Provide the planning, supervision, and technical expertise to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are consistently achieved and operational challenges are resolved effectively

Responsibilities

  • Team Management:

    • Responsible for the leadership and management of a team of Developer Services Inspectors
    • Provide strong technical capability and competence to deliver improved performance
  • Operational Excellence:

    • Oversee all technical aspects of Developer Services Field, with customer performance accountability
    • Analyze and interpret operational performance information
    • Proactively identify and implement corrective actions within Health and Safety requirements
    • Escalate performance risks to the Field Services Manager
  • Research & Strategy:

    • Carry out research and development projects, liaising with internal departments and external organizations
    • Support the development of Developer Services strategies
  • Project & SLA Oversight:

    • Plan, provide practical technical input, and supervise the work of Developer Services Inspectors (DSI) and data analysts
    • Ensure SLAs are met and issues are resolved

  • Supplier & Collaboration:

    • Liaise with external suppliers to understand technical aspects of existing DS Field, associated equipment, and innovation
  • Miscellaneous Responsibilities:

    • undertake specific roles, projects, or initiatives requiring technical input

Requirements

Education & Qualification

  • Educated to degree level in a technical discipline

Core Competencies & Experience

  • Excellent general knowledge of UUW (United Utilities Water) policy, strategy, and initiatives
  • Proven project management skills
  • Proven experience in the creation of strategies to support business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Strong understanding of metering technology and firm grasp of industry AMR/Smart metering competitor activity
  • Experience in leading benchmarking programmes
  • Understanding of UU Wholesale’s market responsibilities and their relationship with other UU departments like Domestic Retail and Ubiquitous Utilities (UU) departments
