National Crime Agency (NCA) – Technical Operations Equipment Officer
Location: Gillingham (Kent) / Warrington
About the Role
Technical Operations delivers state-of-the-art surveillance capabilities to the National Crime Agency (NCA), operating in complex and high-risk environments. The Equipment Officer plays a critical support role by ensuring the efficient management, maintenance, and accountability of specialist technical equipment used by frontline Technical Officers.
This role is responsible for:
- Maintaining accurate stock control records throughout the equipment lifecycle, including receipt, deployment, and secure storage.
- Ensuring auditability and compliance with operational and legal standards.
- Supporting equipment standardisation, software/firmware updates, and working closely with deployment teams to maintain operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Stock & Inventory Management
- Use the Obelisk system to record, issue, and audit all technical equipment from receipt through deployment and return.
- Ensure clear chain of custody for equipment used on operational tasks.
- Conduct physical stock checks across multiple secure storage locations, reconciling records with actual assets.
- Promptly log all newly received equipment into the stock control system.
Equipment Support & Maintenance
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of deployed equipment, including software/firmware interdependencies and operational systems.
- Work with Technical Officers to troubleshoot minor issues and perform basic functionality checks.
- Ensure consistent firmware and software updates across similar devices to prevent compatibility issues.
- Monitor consumable stock levels (e.g., batteries, cables) and coordinate replacements with manufacturers/suppliers.
Compliance & Reporting
- Generate auditable reports for senior management, including:
- Equipment usage patterns.
- Ad-hoc status updates (location, condition, deployment history).
- Comply with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and legal requirements.
- Maintain detailed transaction records for accountability.

Stakeholder Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with Technical Officers, manufacturers, and suppliers to improve operational efficiency.
- Train team members in equipment usage procedures and best practices.
- Escalate procedural risks or inefficiencies promptly.
Requirements
Experience & Skills
- Technical awareness: Interest in operating systems, surveillance equipment, and cybersecurity tools.
- Admin/record-keeping: Proven ability to manage complex stock databases (e.g., Obelisk).
- Customer engagement: Experience working with technical teams to troubleshoot or resolve issues.
- Digital literacy: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based systems.
- Organisational skills: Ability to prioritise tasks in high-pressure environments.

- Nationality: Open to UK, Republic of Ireland, Commonwealth, EU/EEA, or Turkish nationals (see NCA eligibility list).
